Becki Posted August 15, 2009 Report Posted August 15, 2009 We have a remote key problem for the past few weeks th ekey has worked when its felt like it and sometimes you have to press a few times to get the key to lock or unlock. However after parking up in the multi story car park we went to lock the car and it wouldnt lock with remote. it wont lock the car from drivers door (it never has) we have to lock and unlock from the boot now! which is a pain. We have found how to change the battery but how likely is it to be the battery? the key fob makes a dim light when you press either the lock or unlock but we get no light at all from the drivers door light not even if we try to reprogramme? would it be worth trying the battery? or is it more like going to be the actual fob that needs changing and how will we know which fob we need to buy (looking on ebay there are loads of different ones.) thanks in advance again becki Quote

jkspoff Posted August 15, 2009 Report Posted August 15, 2009 If you change the battery will it loose the memory for the immobiliser ?You can always put the key in the drivers side and turn it clockwise once, which turns off the immobiliser/alarm and then turn it fully to open the door, this is incase of battery failure. mk2vr6 Posted August 15, 2009 Report Posted August 15, 2009 (edited) If you change the battery will it loose the memory for the immobiliser ? NO! You can always put the key in the drivers side and turn it clockwise once, which turns off the immobiliser/alarm and then turn it fully to open the door, this is incase of battery failure. Again NO! it only switches off the alarm NOT! the immobiliser Edited August 15, 2009 by mk2vr6 Quote
Becki Posted August 15, 2009 Author Report Posted August 15, 2009 why wont our key allow us to open the doors from the drivers only from the boot!! so we wont need to have the immobiliser done to change battery? also will it need to be reprogrammed to the car once battery changed? thank you Quote
mk2vr6 Posted August 15, 2009 Report Posted August 15, 2009 first off forget the remote problem, sort out why the central locking isnt working from either the drivers or passenger front door? is it the correct key? once your in the car can you lock the doors from the inside by operating the door release handle? Quote
Becki Posted August 15, 2009 Author Report Posted August 15, 2009 YES WE CAN OPERATE FORM INSIDE THE CAR WITH THE DOOR HANDLE WE have never been able to use the cetral locking from th ekey in the drivers door since we got it but the remote fob has always worked until now first off forget the remote problem, sort out why the central locking isnt working from either the drivers or passenger front door? is it the correct key? once your in the car can you lock the doors from the inside by operating the door release handle? mk2vr6 Posted August 15, 2009 Report Posted August 15, 2009 the central locking when operated from the remote gets its signal from the main ECU possibly under the passenger seat? but when operated via the key in the door, from a switch on the lock mech, sounds like you have a problem with the loom in the door! usual place is the loom beween the door and the A post your remote system is possibly the early (97) I/R system which isnt known for its reliability or range! and IIRC? there are two batterys in the remote Quote

gregers Posted August 15, 2009 Report Posted August 15, 2009 check again,it may be hidden under a metal plate,ALSO plz be aware of losing the pats chip from inside the key. Quote
big_kev Posted August 16, 2009 Report Posted August 16, 2009 Becki, Split the job into 2 parts to simplify it . Remote doesn't work....either faulty remote or battery flat. Central locking not working from drivers door....most likely broken wires at drivers door where it passes through to the body ( very common ). As per grumpy's recommendation I would concentrate on sorting the central locking problems first. Quote
