dave2 Posted April 4, 2003 Report Posted April 4, 2003 I would like to say thanks to all those peaple who gave imformation about the MAS.My galaxy has been lacking power since I bought it six months ago,and giving poor fuel consumption. I've been meaning to take it in but had no confidenence in Ford main agents, but after they giving in they gave it a full diagnostic check everthing showed OK. Never the less I insisted that it might be the MAS so a new one was fitted. WOW what a differance it made to the power and the fuel consumrtion. Im now getting 42 per gallon on a long run and it's an automatic. Once again thanks eveyone Dave2 :o Quote
Guest SA Intruder Posted April 5, 2003 Report Posted April 5, 2003 Diesel poor performance 3 usual causes of poor performance, particularly over 3000rpm when vehicle appears to run out of power. Choked inlet manifold, busted Mass Airflow (MAF) sensor or stuck/carboned EGR valve. The most common reason is a shot MAF. It can be tested, but since it is easy to remove, check by substitution - borrow a known good one. Second reason is usually a sticking or blocked EGR valve. This unit varies between models, and failure may cause the glowplug light to illuminate. It is fairly awkward to remove. You will need various new seals and gaskets if the EGR is disturbed. The pipe should be replaced. The final cause could be carbonned inlet manifold. This is rare, but can happen in cases where incorrect oil grades or changes have occured. Removing the manifold is difficult. Quote
Nick Posted May 2, 2003 Report Posted May 2, 2003 SA Intruder, what is the procedure for testing an MAF? I can't find it on the TIS CD, but then again I can't get the 'find' to work at all ! Quote
Guest SA Intruder Posted May 2, 2003 Report Posted May 2, 2003 Check by substitution only I'm afraid - borrow one first. Tests by FDS/WDS are NOT conclusive - Ford and VW try and fail everytime. Quote
Guest Cviko_M Posted May 22, 2003 Report Posted May 22, 2003 To check MAF is easy.. just disconnect it and see is there any difference. In my case it was a massive difference so i got the new one.I found on the net that in States lot of Audi drivers permanently disconnect MAFto get more power... Quote
Guest SA Intruder Posted May 22, 2003 Report Posted May 22, 2003 Told you. On the subject of superchips, misguided friend paid Quote
Guest Nik Posted May 22, 2003 Report Posted May 22, 2003 Sorry guys, but is there anybody who can tell where it's located (MAF) and how it looks like? I have a 2001 tdi (90hp).Thx! Quote
Guest SA Intruder Posted May 22, 2003 Report Posted May 22, 2003 "On" the pipe from the large airbox. It has a connector on it. It is simply screwed to the airbox with 2 screws. Quote
Guest Nik Posted May 22, 2003 Report Posted May 22, 2003 Thanks! I already tried it: drove with connector on. Then disconnected and ... felt no difference. So I am the one with a bad MAF (and now the are NOT going to fool me at the garage; this forum is better than a garage) I disconnected it with turning engine and heared a little "fluck" in the engine at that moment. Guest galaxian Posted May 29, 2003 Report Posted May 29, 2003 Suspect dodgy MAF on my 98 TDI, will disconnecting the sensor mess up any settings in the engine management system ? Quote
Guest MarkE Posted May 30, 2003 Report Posted May 30, 2003 Can anyone help.I've a 1996 2.8 GLX which is running abit rough especially at slower speed i.e. when decelerating from say 5th to 4th or 4th to 3rd. I thought it was maybe going too slow in the wrong gear but thinking about it i don't drive any different to how i always have.It felt to me like a plug lead fault or plug breaking down but i've changed plugs, leads not as even though i can get discount at Fords one lead on its own was Quote
Guest MarkE Posted May 31, 2003 Report Posted May 31, 2003 Fred, no i didn't buy the leads. Who and where are g,s+f ?Do you think it could be the MAf sensor causing the jumpiness. I also got it accelerating abit on my way home from work last night.Total change of track here, but what symptoms does a clutch on its way out give as i,m concerned mine could be at 88k.Could this be clutch judder and if so does anyone have experience of changing a Galaxy one and how difficult/impossible is it to do or any ideas of how much to have it done ?
