boeridge Posted August 9, 2009 Report Posted August 9, 2009 Hi Guys, I have a 53plate galaxy 90hp diesel. I have own the car for 18mths no problems. Have just returned from a few days camping which involved towing a trailer, I notice the cay temp gauge went above the norm 90 but thought it was the extra effort involve in towing. Alas not! The problem i have now is on a fast road the temperature goes right off the scale and the water in the expansion tank boils. Both fans come on if i put the air con on but this doesn't stop the problem but allowed me to limp home with temp reading about 100 staying on back roads. Cant be sure the fan is coming on when it should. Have read lots of posts on this subject so i thought I'd start at the stat.Where the hell is it? Traced top hose back to the engine and there is a alloy type housing, is it in there? Any help appreciated. Quote

sepulchrave Posted August 9, 2009 Report Posted August 9, 2009 You're going to PX the car because it needs a new water pump and you can't find the thermostat (which will probably be fine BTW)? This seems like a disproportionately expensive response to a small and common problem. Just take it to the garage and get a new water pump fitted. And try breathing slowly and evenly! Quote
boeridge Posted August 9, 2009 Author Report Posted August 9, 2009 thermostat thingy :D Thanks cyborg, Didn't check there! easyiest bloody part to get to!! Had words with recently retired Ford mechanic who's going to have a look at the car tommorrow. Water pump is looking likely and yes i know px exchange slighlty drastic part tbh i never have really loved the car. Thnks to everyone who replied. let you know whta the outcome is.. Quote
