Fitting Dvd Kit Yourself

Hi Ian

 

Too right about the AC, never really realised how cool (pun intended) having AC is until it stopped working.  Appart from the obvious worry of whether this is the start of a larger problem, I am having to try a new garage (gulp) as my normal garage doesn't do AC :o

 

I orderd very similar to you I think:

I nearly went for the fd5 with TV Tuner but I didn't want to add a big aerial and I never had any success with the portable active tv aerial that I bought from Maplins for my old setup.

 

BTW what is the quality like, i.e does it play without jumping, does it play dvdr (if so have you tried with both types +/-), does it feel like good quality kit?

Hi guys i am fitting a dvd player in the next few weeks. i have a couple of questions if any body can help .

1 if i fit a roofmounted screen that dosent have a infared detector for the headphones. but i fit a fm modulator so ican hear it through the existing stereo can i also hear it through the headphones . is it switchable i am looking at ordering it through mp3 player .com . i am going to order soon so any help would be greatly appreciated sorry for the spelling guys.

Hi mate

Yes if you use the fm modulator you can tune to radio

Or put radio onto your own channel turn headphones on press tune and will tune to you dvd player bets of both worlds

Not only that it would be contracted out to a company and Ford would take a wopping profit off the top

 

Even at mp3store it has leather headrests with them built in to purchase

hi thanks for the reply so to sum it up when i fit a dvd player with a fm modulator i can tune the radio to say channel 88.5fm and listen through the stereo speakers in the car and when i switch on the headphones do they need to be infared headphones on fm headphones . also the cost of a dvd install for me is

Just make sure the dvd player has memory most of them dont

What this means you stop the car for petrol or half way through the journey

And the dvd starts from the begining ( Bl--dy pain)

 

Mp3 player stuff is brill

I do not question your choice of dvd equipment. What I am doing is highlighting, after much research and deliberation, the pros and cons. I do not think that you can simply rubbish the ford visteon system and that it offers value for money based on the objectives that it fulfils.

More specifically on your points, I would say the following: -

-Probably not but I was talking about the factory fit system and if I go down a similar route, I will choose an independent.

-Yes, but these are in black leather only (mine is grey) and I have no choice as to the type and make of monitor I would want to use.

-Unforunately, a ceiling monitor will not locate at all well on the roof of a galaxy with dual aircon. In fact, two local specialists gave up. You either have to chop out the middle vent, have the monitor too far backwards blocking the vent and giving neck strain to my kids or mount it too far forward so that it hits the drivers or front passengers head on any movement. We tried out all the permutations holding monitors in place and sitting in the car to try them.

-I sat in the 3rd row of a galaxy with a 9" roof monitor. I was shocked at how small the image was. I doubt whether a 7" or 5.6" roof mount will prove to be very useful at all in the third row.

 

Again I would say that I respect the choice you and others have made and they do, no doubt, fulfil your requirements and provide value for money but this cannot in any way disprove the value that is gained by the functionality and quality of the factory fit system.

By the time I come to sell it (ie after paying off the loan to buy and fit the kit) it probably won't be worth taking out - the pace of new technology is such that we'll probably have moved on to blue laser discs etc etc......

Finally got an email the other day stating that they still didn't have the roof mounted screen that I ordered, but stating that they could provide the 700b instead (I ordered the 700d originally).

 

I accepted the change and then received a tracking number a couple of days ago. DHL tried to deliver it yesterday but the wife was out so I have rearranged for Tuesday instead.

 

So fingers crossed I should get the stuff soon.

Ian, now that I'm getting close to having to actually fit the screen I'm getting a bit nervous :rolleyes:

 

I haven't lowered the headlining yet so maybe it's really obvious but, I had a little press around in the relevant area and I cannot tell exactly what I will attach the screen to. Did you use screws? How long? Into what?

 

If you did use screws, they must be really short not to interfere with the sunroof blind, or do they?

If you have sunroof gently pull trim from headlining at back of sunroof

seperate gently roof lining from sunroof you will see a roof support ( Metal )

running left to right screw the rearmost screws for the monitor drill a small pilot hole into this metal support but make sure you have left enough room for sunroof trim to go back on .

I used about 1" self tapping screw i think but just test so it wont touch sunshade.

put a small slash in roof for cable and screw front fixing points into headling. this will be enough as the unit is so light .

Then remove door seal from passenger side and with the aid of a coat hanger feed wire to middle of room .

Route wire down behind doorseal till you get to footwell

and then make connections there

Roof unit can be powered from footwell light and rest at back of radio.

 

This may not be the right way round as far as first job and last

But im not well and its a muddled mind writing this

Well the gear is here now (Yahoo) and I've tested it all and it all works :D

 

I must say how good the quality feels; the dvd player is reassuringly heavy and there is a plethora or wires and connections, I really shouldn't be stuck for anything.

 

As an aside they have sent me the dvd player with the TV tuner which is a bonus (although only if I go to the states apparently :lol: ).

 

So now all that's left is finding the time to fit it all, probably this coming weekend.

 

Must take your advice and forewarn the fire brigade though!

 

 

 

BTW did your customer's order arrive safely?
