frogeye Posted August 1, 2009 Report Posted August 1, 2009 Hi, Just a quick one - does anyone know/have experience of putting a replacement set of seat belts from Mk1 in to a Mk 2 Galaxy? My tan coloured Mk2 belts are really tatty and it seems far easier to get hold of a set of black Mk1 belts from breaker and replace the lot. I will experiment with ones out of my T-reg in the morning if no one knows (although I've noticed the part number on my rear most belts only differs with the first part of the part number - 7M3 in the Mk2 and 7M0 in the Mk1. big_kev Posted August 1, 2009 Report Posted August 1, 2009 Don't know. I would advise taking your old ( ok newer ! ) ones with you to check if the the mountings and fasteners are the same. Obviously a 3-point belt wont exist in the rear centre of a Mk1( you may not have one anyway ). Come back and let us all know......unless someone else beats you to it. Pics would be nice if they are different. Quote
JDHogg Posted September 28, 2009 Report Posted September 28, 2009 Isn't it a bit dodgy putting old safety-related components into a car ? Whilst new maybe a bit (!) more expensive, would you forgive yourself if you were in an accident with a kid in the back ? I guess if you're sure the seat belt operates correctly, then fine, but is it worth the chance? Anyone with any opinions / experience on this ? (I have to replace a RH mid seat belt that's no longer auto-retracting and have been pondering the above!) Tks... Quote

Providing the one you are replacing it with is in good condition and all retractors etc working and no damage to the material then I would suggest it's fine. Where I would draw the line is replacing airbags and seatbelt tensioners with second hand as you have no way of knowing if they are still functioning (NOT THAT YOU CAN TELL WITH AN EXISTING SET!). Mirez Posted September 28, 2009 Report Posted September 28, 2009 7M3 in the Mk2 and 7M0 in the Mk1. VW Part numbers are made up of 3 blocks, the first is the platform, the second is the subsection and the third is the part number. Therefore if the part number and subsection havn't changed its almost certain that it will be the same part, the platform is largely irelevant in this case. Quote

Have a similar problem myself after our dog chewed through the two rear most belts - can frogeye (or anyone) confirm whether they are compatible between mk1 / mk2 please? Quote

Hi Steve, A few months late replying but yes, certainly the rear and central seat belts have swapped over from my MK1 to my MK2 very easily. This week end I am trying to figure out the front seat belts which look a bit trickier as they have the pretensioner on them - I 'll let you know! Frogeye Quote
