jkspoff Posted August 1, 2009 Report Posted August 1, 2009 The Dodge Nitro's are fetching low low prices, seen an 08 one today for 12k fully specced, I bet they don't drive as well as they look though, but it is actually quite tempting.......must resist........as I think they'll turn out to be pants ! Anyone any experience of them ? Quote

Anyone any experience of them ? Well, one of the magz over here, in Sweden, dubbed the Nitro as "one of the most unnecessary cars on the market" and found almost no pros about the car, only cons. I for myself wouldn't touch one even if getting paid to take custody of it. /Karl Quote
jkspoff Posted August 2, 2009 Author Report Posted August 2, 2009 My thoughts now too, having read a few reviews on it. http://fwd.five.tv/cars/off-road/dodge-nitro Quote
mk2vr6 Posted August 2, 2009 Report Posted August 2, 2009 My thoughts now too, having read a few reviews on it. http://fwd.five.tv/cars/off-road/dodge-nitro but does anyone really take the advice of a load of top gear wanna be's? the nitro does it says on the label, its different, it doesnt claim to be a bmw x5 or discovery, its a yank SUV shipped over here on a budget, go try one dont let a bunch of channel five second rate tv presenters put you off! :) Quote
big_kev Posted August 2, 2009 Report Posted August 2, 2009 The steering wheel is on the wrong side Quote
jkspoff Posted August 2, 2009 Author Report Posted August 2, 2009 They are right hand drives over here. I don't take any notice of a few Top Gear or Channel 5 journalists etc as they have absolutely no idea what makes a good car, just what makes entertaining TV. However most of the 14 other reviews I read on-line are against it, so there was only one thing left to do:I went to test drive one this morning at my JCT600 Dodge local garage and in my opinion it looks the business on the outside but as soon as you get inside and drive it, the feeling I had for it changed. Its very noisy, poor handling (worse than most 4x4's) harsh ride, poor quality feel, rattly, only 5 seats, massive exterior but tiny interior, but somehow I still quite liked the element of driving a 'Tonka toy', it made me feel 10 years old again ! But no I won't be buying one, even though the salesman offered me an 08 one for Quote

But no I won't be buying one... you test drove a new shape galaxy? I though we were talking about the Nitro? ;) go test drive a Grand Cherokee or a Commander if you want 7 seats or try for a Dodge Durango :) the Durango is only available as an import in LHD drive only though but is real nice Quote

jkspoff Posted August 2, 2009 Author Report Posted August 2, 2009 mpg on the diesel Nitro is realistically between 23 and 28 at best. I wanted to like it but just can't, one of the other things I noticed is just how small the windows are in it. When you sit in the drivers seat and put the seat right down your still looking out of the top part of the windscreen, I'm 6'3, so nothing unusual. Quote
