Hi all

I just 2 weeks ago bought a 2002 Galaxy TDi 6 speed manual with 98,000 miles on it. (private sale) Unfortunately today it has decided it will not select reverse anymore. It is as if it does not have a reverse gear all of a sudden!

Any help or suggestions on what the problem could be would be much appreciated.

Regards (and thanks in advance)

Andy

possible selector cables? hit the seach engine, its a common failure and fairly easy to fix!

Yeah, thanks for that. Hopefully it will be the selector cables. All forward gears work fine, just reverse that seems to have vanished.

Mm Selector cables seem fine. Also, its just reverse gear that is missing, and I think if there was a cable problem, a couple of the forward gear would be affected too. Is that right?

What happens when you try and select reverse? Does the gear lever move to the correct position or is it blocked? If it moves to the correct position is the box in neutral or some other forward gear?

Cant easily get it into the reverse position, but when it does go there, it is in a forward gear.

Gearbox specialist has looked at it this morning, and gearbox is coming out tomorrow.

Thats a selector problem.

There is a thread about the pinch bolt on the selector stack coming adrift.

But what I would do first is check the gear lever at the drivers end - sounds like something become loose in the the bit at the bottom.
