arryp0tter Posted July 22, 2009 Report Posted July 22, 2009 whilst it must be said that the air con problems on gals is almost 'inbuilt' i dont think it is really fair to lay the blame for this at the door of good old Henry , remember till mk111 these vehicles are just about rebadged vw/audi stable mates and the problem should really be laid at their door. When a problem occurs in life after a few repeats we modify the item or do it adifferent way to avoid the problem but it seems to me that despite bucket fulls of problems all the same that they have just been swept it under the carpet instead of dealing with it in a responsible way. Typical of todays modern mass produced car production. lets face it the problems with these cars dont just stop at air con does it. and yet despite the many problems we all encounter from thime to time ( mainly all the time) what do we do when our beloved beastly Galaxy comes to the end of its life WE BLOODY WELL GO AND BUY ANOTHER ONE are we all totally mad, no i think we do it for the comradery this forum provides , we unite in our grief lol then again we could all go and buy a Kia Sedona!!!!!!!!!or a Zafira!!!!!!!!or a Voyager !!!!!!! Na, stick to what we know best.   B) B) B)   Quote
Mirez Posted July 22, 2009 Report Posted July 22, 2009 Lol, trouble is when they are working they are fantastic cars and at least the bits that fail tend to be ancillaries and not engine related (might be talking to the wrong guy there though!) And for the record everything thats ever broken on this one has had a VW badge on it.... Quote
big_kev Posted July 22, 2009 Report Posted July 22, 2009 And for the record everything thats ever broken on this one has had a VW badge on it.... That will be because the only thing Ford on yours is the badge.... Quote
gregers Posted July 22, 2009 Report Posted July 22, 2009 lets face it,why would any car producer make a car that had parts that never failed, they know very well what designs faults there are on the cars they make coz they PUT THEM THERE,when it comes to these vechicles we are a captive audience. jkspoff Posted July 22, 2009 Report Posted July 22, 2009 We need to consider ourselves lucky, a mate of mine who bought himself (through the business) a Range Rover Sport, it is now on his second engine and gearbox ! and out of 12 months ownership its been off the road for 4 months !! Quote
insider Posted July 23, 2009 Report Posted July 23, 2009 Most of the ancilliaries are not even made by the car manufacturers - they are bought in as complete systems from specialist suppliers. So, it's these suppliers that should take the blame and since the same systems go into many different car manufacturers' models a design fault on a Renault a/c system might also be seen on Ford, VW, Fiat, Nissan, etc., etc. Quote
gregers Posted July 23, 2009 Report Posted July 23, 2009 would be good to find out exactly what is fitted on our cars that are fitted to others, then perhaps we could locate the cheapest place to get the spare parts from,i remember reading in auto express when it first came out that a wing mirror that was fitted to a porsche was also fitted to a citreon visa, porsche dealer summit like 300 quid shiteron dealer about 70 quid lol. cyborg Posted July 23, 2009 Report Posted July 23, 2009 my thinking is you pay your money and get exactlty what you pay for . you buy a galaxy; from a student who think oil levels and brake pads are ok cos there no lights on then you would expect that it will need some work. from a do it yoursef expert home mechanic bodger you expect it to vere to the left or right or both and they will explain away clanking sounds as i havent used it for a while might just need a run. from grandad he tells you i never change the oil cos its cheaper to top up with asda's finesest cough cheapest never had to bother with visconttttity in my day and those whose say you neeed coolent water's always worked cos there's always to much coolent in car's these days from top rated friend of a friend's mate in pub you expect to be sold a bag of .. from hard luck just lost job (again) then expect food to be top of there priorty list so essentaily if you buy a lemon dont squeal when its a duffer or moan cos its the man who's made it fault because i guarentee at some point some unqualified student of life has had a hand in building your car.spend a little extra service it fully belts n'sparky tyres and oil n'shim's vag it and cross fingers. ps;remember not to buy a car built on a friday afternoon.. ppS;mkvr6 was right about satnav owner's i feel a similer feeling here... zeplin43 Posted July 24, 2009 Report Posted July 24, 2009 I deal with all makes of cars and they all have problems.Dont forget that parts have a limited lifespan. From my experience as a owner and dealer this car is on the list of cars with the least problems. Quote
Sher Posted July 25, 2009 Report Posted July 25, 2009 VW got it wrong, that is why Ford kicked the deal into touch and now make their own version My 2002 Ghia 115bhp 1.9Tdi is the MOST unreliable car I have had since my first - Hillman Imp. Most of you won't know what that is. The Galaxy from new performed well until 53,000 miles when it left me stranded with a caravan on a Spanish Motorway, failed Slave Clutch Cylinder/ bearing. 63,000 miles drivers side CV joint and worn teeth on the transfer shaft from the gearbox. I spent ages getting a Ford Garage to agree it was not the gearbox. 73,000 miles water pump impeller (plastic) detached itself from the knurled metal used to attach it to the shaft. Again had problems getting a Ford Garage to agree it was not the thermostat. 97,000 Noisy/ worn drivers side Front Suspension top bush/ bearing passed MOT but wore out a tyre. All VW specified Parts. I have spent far more on Service Parts and repairs as a proportion of the purchase price than I ever did on previous First cars - Cortina Mk3 and 4.5 Estate, Volvo 240GL Estate, Rover 2.7 Stirling, Mondeo 1.8TDi now Galaxy. The most reliable second car we have owned is without doubt the Nissan Micra 1.0 manual. I have some other gripes about the VW Galaxy but they are minor in comparison NO AC Problems why? Answer I use it. If the AC system is switched on it will not function unless the temperature selected is low enough to switch the solenoid so that the Pump actually turns and fluid moves around the system. Have it checked every 5/6 years. Having said the above, the Galaxy does most of what I want and is now at 97,000 miles and I intend to run it to about 150,000 miles or 11 years unless something major happens. P.S. I'm still on the original Front Brake Pads and disks which I think proves I do not hammer cars when I drive them. Rear changed at 75,000 miles. Quote

Cortina MK3 wow you OLD FART . still on the original Front Brake Pads Impressive! bet you can get the that last bit of marmite out of the jar. you remind me of me dad telling me his cars was 5 times cheaper to insure than mine and how he could make tyres last 70 thousand miles, me saying a glint in my eye that i enjoy paying it as he was 40 years older than me :) i was 17 at the time and insuring a vauxhaul viva.i only made 2 payments before i stuck it in a ditch . :) insurance was Edited July 26, 2009 by cyborg Quote
