Roof Bars Too Large For A Cycle Carrier

I have just bought a Thule 591 roof mounted cycle carrier only to find that the fittings are too small for the Galaxy roof bars.

 

Does anyone have any suggestions of roof mounted alternatives to the Thule or how to get them them fit?

You don't say where you got it from, but the Thule 591 Pro-Ride is listed as an official accessory from Ford, as is the cheaper Thule Freeride 530. I would suggest it is worth talking to whoever supplied your kit or dealer about this as there might be a different set of mounting parts available?

I bought it from Halfords who confirmed that they would not be able to fit it. They have kindly refunded the money.

I have also spoken to my Ford dealer who confirmed that it is an official Ford accessory for the Galaxy. They could not explain why it did not fit the standard Galaxy roof bars. I have now ordered from them the alternative roof mounted bike carrier made by Barracuda. Will they fit? I'm not holding my breath.

Success. The Barracuda bars did fit. This was done by using their C track fittings. The Galaxy roof bars have a concealed track on the top into which these slot.

Note that also Thule Pro-Ride can be fitted with c tracks fittings.
