rubyhettybetty Posted July 15, 2009 Report Posted July 15, 2009 Hi,I'm a newbie, just joined today - my R reg 2.0 Galaxy (petrol) has been into the mechanic today as the oil light is flashing on and off, usually when in traffic....also we have noticed tappit noise more than usual. The darling motor has done 112k miles but it would be nice if we could make it last a bit longer ANYWAY - mechanic can't locate the oil pressure switch? He is a trustworthy type - but he says it's a Ford job ;) I thought if you guys could point me in the right direction I could tell him ;) OR else, how much are Frauds gonna charge me to replace the switch? As I think the switch is actually OK, and the problem is terminal ;) Just wanna rule it out :D Quote
insider Posted July 16, 2009 Report Posted July 16, 2009 The oil pressure switch is just below the intake manifold and above and to the right of the oil filter. However, it's not easy to get at and you'll probably need to remove the driveshaft centre bearing bracket first (2 bolts to the block and 2 to the driveshaft). After unplugging the electrical connector you'll need a 24mm socket, 2 universal joints and 2 long extensions. Good luck! While you have the switch removed it's advisable to check the oil pressure with a suitable gauge. At normal engine temperature it should be 1.6 bar at idle and 3.1 bar at 2000rpm. Quote

Thanks so much, now, do I offend my mechanic by running down there clutching this print out, or do I pay Quote
