I'm new to here, but have had a nose round and can't find an answer to my question...

I have a new shape Galaxy (07 plate - is it a MK III?). It is currently off the road due to a puncture. Again. Surely it can't be too hard to fix a puncture? You'd think so. However, there is no spare and (because it is a company car), I am forced to use ATS and they never have any. I had the puncture 2 days ago and am currently waiting at home (instead of being at work) waiting for a tyre to be delivered.

There seems to be a lot of discussion on these boards about tyres, but no one else seems to have my problem. Does any one else struggle to get hold of tyres? Should I try to pursuade my leasing company (ING) to let me use a different dealer?

and some people would say that they made these at all!!!!

personally i wouldve obtained another wheel and somehow strapped it in the car.i wouldnt feel safe without a spare.

If they were run flats he could still use it while waiting for the new tyre to be delivered. Albeit at a maximum 50mph.

As a RAC Patrol I get called to Run Flat Tyres which have only completed 10 or so miles. I must admit you have to take what the driver says with a pinch of salt regarding speed etc. They are supposed to be designed to get you home not run around for days until you can afford a new tyre !!!!!.

As a mK3 owner going over to France and Spain soon, I am desperately looking for a spare I can stick in the back.

I have 17" alloys with offset 55 and 225/50/R17 tyres. Has anyone found a space saver that will fit?

It must clear the brake calipers and be the same rolling diameter. Have been told 2003 Mondeo had 17" space saver but i have not been able to find one to try.

Come on guys there are so many of us not happy without a spare if we all make a stink at the dealer maybe they will help us. Think of the safety implications !!!!!

7 persons in Galaxy no spare on Mway / A road after normal hours as a job for me means :-

1. Try to find local 24 hr tyre fitter at XXXX? cost to member plus whatever he wants to charge for Tyre

They have you by the short and curleys

2. Ring for a recovery truck or 2 if its a local tow home .Then you have to sort it all out in the morning

3. If lond distance or complicated, Find local hotel to put you up in till sorting out next day etc

4. any variation of the above all because in order to reduce emmissions Ford see fit not to supply a spare

In 10+ years I have not seen a single tyre that the glue has managed to sort out

But then I am mainly only called out when things go wrong.

Has anyone used the glue successfully ?

Normal car - roll up fit spare - on your way - have a nice day -bye bye

I've mentioned previously on other threads on this forum that I would not use a space saver, as IMO I think the car is too big and heavy.

I think you'd be better off phoning around local scrap yards and car breakers stating the spec for the wheel/tyre you're after, and then try further afield - expect to travel. Also do a web search for other vehicles which use that wheel size to narrow it down a bit.

Don't give up! There's one out there somewhere.

Good luck,

Yes - it got me home ~60 miles in April. Then my car was off the road, of course, until I could get a new tyre. The first quote was over a week!! Eventually, I got one two days later.

I went to 4 tyre places on Tuesday an none had any 215 60 r16 99v in stock. They could all get them the next day, so I went for 2 Goodyear Excellence's at

Have you tried using:

www.blackcircles.com

They offer deliver to a fitter of your choice , home delivery or a fully fitted option. Prices are generally cheaper than some high street dealers.
