daveshanny Posted July 14, 2009 Report Posted July 14, 2009 Hi all, New to the forum and the missus has just bought us a 2001 Ford Galaxy which is very nice indeed! ;) We got it as an absolute bargain but there are a few scratches on the car and was wondering what is the best way to help make these look a little better? Maybe something I can buy to help bring the scratch out so to speak. Thanks in advance and look forward to chatting around the forum ;) Quote
mumof4 Posted July 14, 2009 Report Posted July 14, 2009 Welcome to the forum.;) It depends on how deep/bad the scratches are.. is it metallic paint? few more details please for this little old lady ;) Quote

I found CM when our little cherubs decided to 'decorate' the Gal one day by drawing patterns on it with a couple of sharp stones... bonnet... front wing... two doors... back wing... tailgate... grrr! ;) Ours is a metallic, I cut the laquer back a little with compound before applying the CM, but some of the scratches were quite bad. The scratches can still be found if you examine closely, but from a normal distance they look fine. Has to be re-applied every few months to keep the scratches hidden. seatkid Posted July 15, 2009 Report Posted July 15, 2009 Assuming only the lacquer is damaged..... Light scratches - Car polish + elbowgrease Light to moderate scratches - T Cut or rubbing compound, elbow grease and car polish Moderate to deep scratches - Clean area thoroughly, solvent cleaner to remove grease then apply lacquer locally either using spray can or touch in brush. Build up 2 or 3 light layers with 15 mins between each application. Allow to dry for 24 hours then attack with rubbing compound and elbow grease. This removes most of the lacquer you applied, leaving the scratches filled and leveled and hopefully invisible! Deep scratches that have damaged the base layer or have gone to prime coat or metal, need more than just lacquer. Quote
big_kev Posted July 15, 2009 Report Posted July 15, 2009 If your missus is going to be driving it I wouldn't worry to much about the existing scratches. ;) Quote

Some of them are deep and some arent so I shall try some of the suggestions you guys have suggested, thank you very much ;) On another note does anyone know where to get a new glove compartment from?
