mumof4 Posted July 13, 2009 Report Posted July 13, 2009 what causes your car to over rev when you press the accelerator gently but the revs go whoop over 4k... so it sounds like the car is revving its nuts off. Happened to me earlier. took it to local motorsave garage where the guy there had a look, had a tinker then it was all fine after 30 mins. i have no idea what he did, cost me 40 quid and im none the wiser as to what he did. well he did tell me but ive forgotten already. mind like a sieve! sepulchrave Posted July 15, 2009 Report Posted July 15, 2009 maybe throttle idle control unit ? Where is that fitted on an old tech diesel then? Quote
Willie Krashitt Posted July 16, 2009 Report Posted July 16, 2009 Only a possibility, but on most ancient tech diesels, there is a cold start advance built into the fuel pump, and some also have a unit that allows extra fuel to go through when it is cold. If the thermostatic switch that allows this/these to work is faulty/badly adjusted, then you might have got extra fuel and injection advance when you don't need it, allowing the engine to 'race away'?
