daz127 Posted July 12, 2009 Report Posted July 12, 2009 i have a galay 1.9 tdi t reg with just over 100000 miles on the clock. from cold the car starts first time every time and runs perfect all the time. but after a run and when the engine is still hot the car turns over at least a dozen times before starting .trial and error i found that if i unplug the temp switch on the engine it starts first time when hot . but plug it back in and the problem is back . i have changed the temp switch in the engine and other than showing the engine is running a bit hotter with the new switch the proplem is still thier. The car has been on ford dio but shows nothing .their are four wires coming from the temp switch which i suspect one of them could lead to the proplem but i may be wrong . Can you help please Quote
blackwolf0578 Posted July 12, 2009 Report Posted July 12, 2009 hi Daz mine is exactly same :o me thinks is starter, cos when hot contacts have expandedhaven't had time to put theory to test yet as i say only an assumption so let me no if you fix your prob good luck :D Quote
Scorpiorefugee Posted July 12, 2009 Report Posted July 12, 2009 H Daz, It seems that no-one knows how to sort this one. Mine started to suffer at about 160K, it came on suddenly and continued until it died recently at 230K. You are the first that I have seen to find a way of stopping it and I wish you every success in finding a solution. If you do, there are a lot of folks out there who will be pleased to hear about it. daz127 Posted July 13, 2009 Author Report Posted July 13, 2009 Thanks for your replys. i will look into the starter solenoid ,does any one know if this can be changed or will it have to be the whole starter motor replaced . Its not the worst proplem to have but i would rather it sorted as it is the only problem on the galaxy. i need to find out where the four wires go to that come of the temp switch but have not got a clue how to read the wiring guide in the manual Quote
Scorpiorefugee Posted July 13, 2009 Report Posted July 13, 2009 Sorry, I can't see the starter having anything to do with this probem. The fact that it is OK if you disconnect the temperature sensor suggests that it is some sort of reaction to the indicated temperature. One thing worth looking at, but difficult to prove without replacing it ( Quote
daz127 Posted July 13, 2009 Author Report Posted July 13, 2009 Every thing you say makes sence .the 2 sensors you have mentioned are they next to and slightly to the right of the temp senor . Im amazed that many people have had this proplem but nobody can pin point why it happens . I will keep trying hopefully without spending to much .Thanks for your very helpfull reply . Quote
Scorpiorefugee Posted July 13, 2009 Report Posted July 13, 2009 The 2 sensors are in one unit which plugs in to the cooling system with an O ring to stop leaks. It is held in place by a spring clip. The wiring tends to get very brittle so beware of breaks which can add to your problems. The earth connection is the most likely to fail. It is a frustrating problem and itdoes not generate any fault codes so, if it is a result of action by the ECU then it must be a programmed reaction to something considered to be relatively normal and associated with a hot engine. The only ones which makes any sense to me is the possibility of fuel in the exhaust system and some condition which simulates over-run when I believe the fuel supply to the injectors is reduced to zero to reduce fuel consumption and the risk of unburnt fuel getting into the exhaust system. Sadly, this is just guesswork and I cannot suggest any particular items to check as I have no experience in this area. You have already done well to indicate that it is probably a control problem by removing the hot engine signal. I'm afraid you're on your own now unless you can stimulate interest from some of the much better informed members. Good luck, Ron. Quote
daz127 Posted July 13, 2009 Author Report Posted July 13, 2009 Cheers Ron you seem to no your stuff . you have been more help than the 2 garages that ripped me off and found nothing. i will start with the sensers and go from thier and will let you no if i get anywhere cheers mate . Daren Quote
