maximus Posted July 12, 2009 Report Posted July 12, 2009 I had another go at re-gassing my aircon due to the hot weather. It filled up then the compressor swithced on and the pressure gauge was going in the right direction, great I thought! Then I tunred the car off to see if the climate control panel was still flashing when turning the ignition on. This is when I noticed a loud ish hissing noise. The leak is at the front offside corner, on the pipe which runs down the chassis leg and around the back of the engine bay. I have asked at the loacal fraud dealer if I can get a new one, but it's now obsolete!!!! So does anyone know where to get a new pipe either made or perhaps VW still do them? I'll pop to VW and see if they still do them and report back. I'm near Oxford so any tips on good aircon repair people would be great! Quote

Don't know about Oxford, sorry, but what I do know is my garage (not Ford dealer) did have my air con system re-piped by a local air con / heating engineer rather than do it themselves or send it to Ford. Not only was it relatively cheap, it has worked fine after) and the main thing is you don't seem to need an automotive special part for this, nor a Ford mechanic. Yellow pages job?Anybody else had similar experience? Good luck Quote
seatkid Posted July 12, 2009 Report Posted July 12, 2009 VW should still carry the parts - but if you can get it done for less by other means then I would consider that. Quote

I have asked at the loacal fraud dealer if I can get a new one, but it's now obsolete!!!! If it's the same pipe I'm thinking of, that pipe has failed twice on mine, corroding where it crosses the chassis leg and comes out of the engine undertray. I'm surprised Ford no longer stock these, that's not good news... I had one supplied a while ago from FordpartsUK - you could try there. After the second failure, I too am now without aircon again. I need to look at repair options for the second failed pipe - even if a new replacement pipe is obtainable, they are not cheap. I would be very interested to hear how you get on with the VW dealer... Depending on where the leak is located, it can be repairable. I had a leak in the pipe at the top of the condensor and managed to repair it by clamping a bit of 15mm split copper pipe around it with jub-clips - using araldite as a sealant. Re-charged with Halfords re-charge bottle and it's been fine for some couple of months now. Quote

If so, I bought one of these from my local dealer about 3 months ago for Quote
