GrannyPower Posted July 11, 2009 Report Posted July 11, 2009 Hi Everybody. Just spent most of a day fitting a new DMF and clutch to my Galaxy TDI 115. The old DMF had locked itself solid, causing horrendous engine vibration which had gradually got to the point of the doors shaking when open. My car has done 218000 miles and was still on the original clutch. This was only worn by about 2mm on the friction plate and was perfectly ok, which is quite amazing considering the mileage (new one fitted anyway) Hardest part of the job was lifting the box back in, other than that quite a straight forward job. The difference is amazing, it's like having a new car, the gear change is better probably due to oil change, it's so much quieter and the clutch feels better. Chris. ;) Quote
GrannyPower Posted July 14, 2009 Author Report Posted July 14, 2009 Knew I shouldn't have fixed it, haven't really driven it since March then......... Yesterday I got rear ended by a stupid person in a Daewoo Matiz. Managed to completely destroy the front of the Daewoo. Galaxy seems relatively ok, apart from needing rear bumper and support bar, parking sensors, spare wheel holder and rear light. I was quite amazed at how well it took the impact. Quote
Mirez Posted July 14, 2009 Report Posted July 14, 2009 Glad it survived but suprised you even felt it ;) Matiz Gross Weight is only 853Kg where the Galaxy is almost 3 times that ;) How easy was it to fit the DMF by the way? Quote
gregers Posted July 14, 2009 Report Posted July 14, 2009 glad you havnt suffered to much damage,im surprised the matiz didnt fall apart.a work collegue got rear ended on his brand new motorbike last week, took a few photos to show us,the bike had moulded into the bonnet of this peugot.a bit of damage to the bike, now the car was a right state. GrannyPower Posted July 14, 2009 Author Report Posted July 14, 2009 Hi Mirez. Didn't really feel much, did see her flying up behind me in the mirror which was a bit scary though. The DMF was quite straightforward to fit, the bolts were quite tight though. Got the the gearbox out in about 3hrs but was much harder to put back as it's quite heavy and you have to lift up the rear of it first to clear the mount where the roll restrictor fixes at the rear of the engine. GrannyPower Posted July 14, 2009 Author Report Posted July 14, 2009 The Matiz fell to bits, total write off. I can upload picture if anyone is interested. Chris. Quote

I know. If the insurance company wasn't paying I could get away with a new bumper and paint. I've had a good look underneath and the floor isn't rippled and there is no obvious other damage. Chris.
