kez1964 Posted July 9, 2009 Report Posted July 9, 2009 2 weeks ago our 3 1/2 year old Galaxy CDi clutch disintegrtaed while hubby was on his way to work, The car has done about 85k. He thought initially that it was the exhaust so pulled in about 1/2 mile later as he had been in the outside lane of a duel carriageway at speed, The engineers report states more damage was done as he continued to drive it. Why hello an emergency stop in the outside lane in rush hour is surely not to be advised! There is over Quote
jkspoff Posted July 9, 2009 Report Posted July 9, 2009 Normally the engine fires on Ford Galaxys are caused by the wiring loom/fuse box located in the engine bay, as you mentioned above, this is a known issue, but not on the more recent models like your own. Try a Google search of Galaxy engine fires and it throws up lots of examples. Quote
seatkid Posted July 9, 2009 Report Posted July 9, 2009 I would have thought an insurance job. However the fact you drove on after perceiving a major problem will probably invalidate any claim. THINK before you speak to them. Quote
kez1964 Posted July 10, 2009 Author Report Posted July 10, 2009 (edited) It is a company car so we will not be responsible for the bill BUT it seems that everyone is trying to pass the buck as usual. The only people who are giving us any real feedback is Ford themselves. The car has been in for it's 80000 mile service within the last 2 months so we had no warning that anything was a problem. It's inconvenient at worst for us. My husband believed it to be the exhaust in the first instance & pulled over as soon as it was safe to do so, It was only when he had safely stopped & opened the bonnet that he found the fire. By the time the fire brigade arrived it had already gone out of it's own accord & looking at the paint work you would have no idea anything is wrong as it is all underneath & up inside.
