markleaver Posted July 2, 2009 Report Posted July 2, 2009 Good old Cruise Control. As TDi's appear to be different, I'd like to ask others of similar experiencesOne day it worked, the next it didn't. Light comes on on dash, but switch on end of stalk makes no difference. Someone on here said the rocker switch on the end of the stalk is a common problem. I took my lovely Galaxy into a Ford dealer in Harrogate, mentioned that it could be the rocker switch, and after a couple of hours they said they would need a whole day to investigate (anything from faulty wiring to new ECU - blank cheque style). So bottom line is - does the rocker fail, if so how would I test this, and can it be "fixed" or does it require a new part, and if so, is this the whole satlk assembly? Quote
bj2004 Posted July 2, 2009 Report Posted July 2, 2009 check brake and clutch switches first try lifting the pedals up with your feet then engaging cc if this works make sure plunger of switch is fully down they are self setting so you wont do any harm Quote
big_kev Posted July 2, 2009 Report Posted July 2, 2009 The money would be on the clutch or brake switches ( as mentioned) having become unadjusted....you got big feet ? Push the pedal down and whilst down pull out the piston on the relevant switch above the pedal....its on a ratchet and may be stiff !When the pedal returns to its normal position it will reset the switch.Do this for both pedals and all switches. The rocker switches and the brake/clutch switches can easily be tested using vag-com and suitable lead.......and obviously Laptop or similar. This can save a lot of time faultfinding.....as well as having a lot of other useful features.Well worth the minor investment......check ebay for cheap leads....basic software is free. markleaver Posted July 4, 2009 Author Report Posted July 4, 2009 The money would be on the clutch or brake switches ( as mentioned) having become unadjusted....you got big feet ?... Being a complete novice at this, I took a look on ebay and the choice is a little bewildering, plus I had problems tracking down a lead suitable for my '05 Galaxy. Apart from that I don't know where the socket is for the lead. The diagnostic sounds very useful indeed, so which lead do I need, they all sate various models of VW/Audi/Skoda/Seat but not Ford, and there are a number of differnet leads Quote
bj2004 Posted July 4, 2009 Report Posted July 4, 2009 befor you buy the lead do as kev says reset the pedal switches Quote

markleaver Posted July 7, 2009 Author Report Posted July 7, 2009 Thanks guys, routed around and (I think) checked both switched (not a lot of room under there!!). Still no CC, but was wondering whether I should remove the panel to get better access to the switches?I may need to check the actual CC rocker switch next. Also, would the cable/VAG.COM check the pedal switches for me?
