whitietdi Posted July 1, 2009 Report Posted July 1, 2009 Hi guys wonder if you can help have just bought a 05 plate galaxy tdi (130ps) and hve just noticed after a couple of weeks when i park on my drive and do a full turn on htesteering wheel, there is a twanging noise coming from ns front,it seems to do it on a left lock, it does not make this noise when driving over bumps or when going around bends/roundabouts it just seems to be when coming to a stand still. Any one had this before?? I am pretty competant on car repairs and i am hoping it is somethingi can fixmyself thankyou whitie Quote
Willie Krashitt Posted July 1, 2009 Report Posted July 1, 2009 Hi, You mention it is only on full lock - this could be the noise from the PAS pump loading up as steering can't move any further? If you back off the steering just a fraction, does the niose go away? Some people have suffered seized shock top mount bearings, and you get a noise when turning, but this normally noticeable in all driving conditions. Also your car would appear to be a bit young for these to have gone.George. Quote
whitietdi Posted July 2, 2009 Author Report Posted July 2, 2009 It's not a constant noise just a quick twang it also does it on both locks but not under driving conditions Quote
Smilge Posted July 2, 2009 Report Posted July 2, 2009 I would tend to agree with Willie on this one. Another thing you might like to look at are the Anti Roll Bar (ARB)drop links as there is a slight twisting movement of the links when nearing full lock. Have a look at them while someone is operating the steering. Quote
seatkid Posted July 2, 2009 Report Posted July 2, 2009 Check for broken spring or partly seized top mount bearing. Quote
