Gall72 Posted June 30, 2009 Report Posted June 30, 2009 (edited) Hi, My Galaxy 2002 tdi has developed a problem. When accelerating the is a loud whistling noise, almost like compressed air being released, the is also no pick up. It takes a lifetime to reach motorway speeds. Also when going uphill when you have to accelerate hard there are plumes of black smoke coming from the exhaust. My first impression is that it could be a spilt turbo pipe, but now because of the black smoke I think it could be something different. Anyone got any ideas. Thanks Gall72 Edited June 30, 2009 by Gall72 Quote

Willie Krashitt Posted June 30, 2009 Report Posted June 30, 2009 Check all air pipes for holes/splits. Not uncommon to have the alloy pipe going from compressor to intercooler to crack, usually near where it is braced on the oilpan. Black smoke can also be caused by the EGR valve sticking open, meaning no boost and not enough air going into the engine. George. Quote
AD90 Posted June 30, 2009 Report Posted June 30, 2009 Sounds very much like a hose/pipe problem. Black smoke is because your 'mixture' is way off. AD90 Quote
