Guest mstraxs Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 Hi All Reversing lights not been working for about 8 months now so finally gave in and decided to look at loom between car and tailgate. Yes should have looked sooner. There were about 3 broken wires (Rear fog light was off too) and a couple more on the way out. Does anyone know if there is any slack in the loom as I didn't have any so had to use an electrical connector block to re-connect my reversing lights and my fog light. Anyway at least they work again.Word of warning then everyone should check the rear loom for signs of wear before it gets to a break like mine. Mark Quote
Guest nimrod Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 Get hold of some decent quality cable and replace the broken wires by joining them up in the head lining and in the tailgate so that the joints do not get disturbed and the old fragile wires are kept out of harms way, glad to hear that you have FINALLY found and succesfully sorted the problem  Quote
Buncers Posted March 23, 2004 Report Posted March 23, 2004 I had the same problems some time ago and patched them with wire and solder. When I asked the forum a few months ago, it appeared no one had had a similar problem. Since then I have seem a few similar postings on the forum. Seems like another ford galaxy fault - not enough cable in the loom. Quote
Guest yurir Posted March 23, 2004 Report Posted March 23, 2004 Hi mstraxs, As has also been suggested in the following posts: Central Locking, provlems with door locking Bare Wires In Tailgate Conduit this may also be due to chemicals in the harness binding causing the wire insulation to harden. This is probably not a problem for statiionary parts of the loom, but anywhere where there is flexing i.e. doors, tailgate, engine, there is a potential problem. I personally have had problems with the tailgate and engine looms, and the insulation on the wires under the binding seemed unusually brittle, compared with those section left unbound. I would suggest that you replace all wires in the section of harness that passes through the tailgate door, while you have it open. It will only come back to bite you later. And also when you have a chance, take pre-emptive action on the door and engine harnesses. Best wishes,Yuri. Quote
