john tee Posted June 27, 2009 Report Posted June 27, 2009 Hi everyone, The following is a summary of several problems I've experienced with my Galaxy TDCi 1.8 125PS Duratorq:- The engine has broken down about six times from new since July 2008; there's actually only 10.000 miles on clock now. The first time was within 25 miles of taking delivery. When I rang the Ford dealer service centre they told me it took a few weeks for the computer system to monitor my driving and settle down. However, the fault persists. The symptoms preceding the failures have been similar and I record these below to help your with a diagnosis. A massive intermittant engine misfire occurs, it can happen when taking the engine from tick-over into the power uptake cycle. It has also occurred when travelling unladen at around 12mph in traffic, with second gear selected, and then applying power to accelerate. This misfire is very aggressive and will not allow an increase in engine RPM even when applying full depression of the accelerator pedal. The car cannot be driven. The misfire is so bad it violently shakes the whole vehicle and contact thudding can be heard from within the engine compartment. Ocassionally the misfire does not occur but significant loss of power has been experienced many times. When I was turning into a right hand street junction, and due to parked vehicles, I slowed down to about 8mph to allow an approaching wagon through. However, the wagon driver flashed for me to proceed first but upon application of the accelerator the engine died. I was in first gear when this happened. It took several attempts to restart the engine. There was no misfire, but the response from applying power was Quote
