Smead Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 Just about to buy a 2.3 zetec that is 2years old privately. I am aware that the inner door handles are badly worn (every one) even though the rest of the car interior is good. The chap I bought this from said that this was an established manufacturers fault and would be changed under warranty. Spoke to the local Ford dealer and they 'have no experience' of this as a problem and so are unlikely to change them under warranty without a fight. Does anyone else have experience of this problem and or success in getting dealers to fix it outside a 1year term. Quote
Guest nimrod Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 Do a search on the topic its been covered a few times! one member has posted a link to a VW spares website that does handles for the VW golf that IIRC are available in chrome so wont peel! and yes it is a known fault and some members have had them replaced under warrenty! Ivor_E_Tower Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 The problem is because the vehicle is older than 12 months - some dealers don't think that trim items are covered for the full 3 years. If necessary give the Ford Customer Assistance centre a ring. I don't have the number to hand (it's on my desk at work) so if you can't find it using the "search" facility, I'll try to post it tomorrow morning. Quote
Dally Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 Here it is again - The chrome version.I had handles changed in both of my Galaxies but both under 1 year old! Ford CC is 08458411111. Good luck! Quote
Smead Posted March 22, 2004 Author Report Posted March 22, 2004 Thanks for all the inputs. Looks like it won't be a barrier to me buying the car. Hopefully the resolution is a cheap one. I'll let the forum know what luck I have with the dealer. Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted March 23, 2004 Report Posted March 23, 2004 You can also try Ford's extended warranty helpline who should be able to confirm that the handles are covered by 3-years not just one year of the warranty:01277 253 683.HTHIvor Quote
ridway Posted March 24, 2004 Report Posted March 24, 2004 I know there is a principal here but these items, in their standard form, are suprisingly cheap to replace if the warrenty period has passed. Rich Quote
MrT Posted June 12, 2004 Report Posted June 12, 2004 I was on the phone to Ford Customer Assistance and they have informed me that the trim is only covered by a one year warranty. They hinted at a partial goodwill gesture. What is the cost of these handles as the portion I pay towards labour and parts may cost more than me just paying for the parts and fitting myself? Quote
Guest nimrod Posted June 12, 2004 Report Posted June 12, 2004 try ......... http://www.vagparts.com/pages/GolfBrushed.htm Quote
MrT Posted June 13, 2004 Report Posted June 13, 2004 Unless I missed it, the VAG brushed handle has no cutouts for the rear windows and child lock switches. Quote
GaryM Posted June 13, 2004 Report Posted June 13, 2004 I spoke to VAG to and they did not have ones to suit the combination of switches on the Galaxy in the end I resprayed mine with satin Black paint. Don't know how long it will last but it can't be any worse than fords attempt. You would have thought that they would have changed the design by now. Quote
MrT Posted June 15, 2004 Report Posted June 15, 2004 The cost of these parts is not expensive, the most expensive at just under Quote
