Intermittant Starting And Cutting Out Mk1 2.3

my mk1 2.3 galaxy has suddenly developed starting an cutting out problems. started a week ago while we were on holiday.travelling down the cd player wouldnt work we stopped had a look checked the leads were in still nothing.got to caravan site went to check in come back started engine an the cd player worked again. with cd player working an car running normal we continued our holiday.then a few days later car wouldnt start,we got it going and it ran fine until sunday.started ok running superb travelling from blackpool to birmingham.stopped off at manchester great no problems got back on motorway after approx 30 miles the car started jolting intermittantly like it wanted to cut out but didnt.it did this all the way to bromsgrove and the rest of the way it was fine.used it monday it was fine. then tuesday it was running ok and suddenly died. charged battery overnight but still didnt want to start but drove as normal.im taking battery for a load test but as anyone got any other ideas?
