Guest Wanny Posted March 21, 2004 Report Posted March 21, 2004 Does anybody no how the cruise control works on the gals, I noticed mine has start losing speed once set. For example set the cruise control on at 70mph and slow the car looses speed, only slowly cruise is defiantly doing something but not keeping the required speed. When you set the cruise you can feel the aceralator pedel move under your foot, I was wondering if it is some sort of vacuum pipe that is connected to the right pedal and may being leaking air  Quote
Guest nimrod Posted March 21, 2004 Report Posted March 21, 2004 Cruise control is operated by a vacuum system, the pump is located in the cavity behind the front passenger side indicator, its a common fault of the system to loose pressure due to perished pipes leaking! the fact that you are slowing gradually sounds like a leak in the system somewhere! to get to the pump undo the large phillips headed screw that holds the indicator in place and slide it forward, then behind it in the cavity should be the vacuum pump, trace the pipes through the car till you find the bad bit and replace it Quote
Guest emjay Posted March 27, 2004 Report Posted March 27, 2004 I agree with nimrod, just replaced the pipe on mine for the same reason, the black rubber pipe is rarer than rocking horse sh** so I'm using washer pipe (clear) as an experiment. Quote
Guest Wanny Posted March 28, 2004 Report Posted March 28, 2004 emjay, did it work ? Was you having the same problerm ... If so how far back did you replace the pipe ? Cheers :o Quote
Guest emjay Posted March 30, 2004 Report Posted March 30, 2004 so far so good ...... everything works again now ...... but it's only been a few days. There is no reason not to use the clear pipe as far as I can see, in fact it's probably better!. I bought about 3M for a couple of quid so it's no loss if it fails. Quote
Guest Wanny Posted March 30, 2004 Report Posted March 30, 2004 Thanks for the info emjay, was it a big job and how far do the pipes go back. Do they just go to the throttle body or do they go back to the accelerator pedal ? :( Quote
Guest nimrod Posted March 30, 2004 Report Posted March 30, 2004 The hoses run from the pump in the passenger side wheel arch to the throttle pedal servo up under the dash and to the switches on the brake and clutch pedals Quote
Guest Wanny Posted March 30, 2004 Report Posted March 30, 2004 That sounds fiddley ! - I'll have a look at the weekend. Out of interest do the newer gals have criuse as i thought I'd read that you can't get the Ghia X any more and some of the toys had disappeared ! :( Quote
iainkirk Posted March 30, 2004 Report Posted March 30, 2004 Cruise standard on Ghia, not available on other trim levels. Old Ghia X type toys are just options on Ghia now. Quote
HJT Posted March 31, 2004 Report Posted March 31, 2004 Does the new Galaxy use the same system for cruise control as I've never noticed my accelerator pedal moving and my cruise control works fine? Howard Quote
Guest nimrod Posted March 31, 2004 Report Posted March 31, 2004 TDI cruise is run by the power control module, no vacuum system involved the clutch and brake switch are simple electrical switches not vacuum switches as on the petrol version Quote
