Stephen154 Posted June 20, 2009 Author Report Posted June 20, 2009 That looks great. Can you tell me how to take out the unit? Is it easy. Firstly start with the trim around gearstick, quite easy to pull up. This should show two torx screws by ashtray.next you need to remove trim at top the piece that runs the length of the dash, use a plastic trim remove or a piece of strong plastic to help remove trim start at the steering wheel end and lift gently, once removed i taped to dash with masking tape to hold it out of position this way i didnt need to remove any connectors. This should show the top two torx screws. remove all of these, and place the removed part over the gear stick out of the way.Next there are 4 torx screws to remove from the old unit and 2 clips either side to unclip.Once you have done this the unit is out. There is one more clip to remove the units harness from the back of it and removed the aerial. The new unit has a canbus connector and such like that need to be put in the new unit first just plug in connectors, then i just connected the harness to the new unit using old clips and refit the aerial. And refitted using the reverse insturctions. Hope this helps. Quote

Stephen154 Posted September 17, 2009 Author Report Posted September 17, 2009 This is presumably to replace the Sony head unit yes? as it is curved. replaces normal 6000 curved ford unit or curved sony unit but there are also ones knocking about for the older square units with the key holes in each corner. yerfdodg Posted January 29, 2011 Report Posted January 29, 2011 Hi,Can you tell me if the dash display in the cluster works? Also do you get the radio station names up... E.g. Radio 1 and not just 98.8? Thanks Quote
Andy Crome Posted February 5, 2011 Report Posted February 5, 2011 Really nice looking upgrade. I have the older square stereo and have been looking around to upgrade it. Ebay only seems to offer a JVC unit - but I would like one that still works with the steering wheel controls - can you provide more details on the make and model please? Cheers, Andy Quote

Martin from Denmark The unit is great except the radio reception is poor, the units gps receiver is just down the centre a little on a a metal sub frame. Quote
sparky Paul Posted April 8, 2011 Report Posted April 8, 2011 (edited) I notice this old thread had been ressurrected recently, and thought I would have a read through. I notice that a problem was mentioned some time ago regarding radio reception on aftermarket units... If anyone has this issue, the problem is that the antenna at the rear of the car has a signal amplifier which requires a power feed to it via the antenna lead, and aftermarket units do not provide this. FM reception is reduced, and MW is almost non existant. However, if you fit a VW Sharan (also other VW models) ISO to ISO cable adaptor lead to the end of the vehicles radio wiring connector, it feeds the necessary power to the antenna and MW function is restored. :) Edited April 8, 2011 by sparky Paul Quote

sparky Paul Posted April 9, 2011 Report Posted April 9, 2011 Will this work as we are talking about a Mk3 galaxy and it doesnt share its body shape or parts with the sharan or alhambra? Bugger... that'll teach me to go wandering around the forum not paying full attention. :) That said, it could be a similar issue on the mk.III... I've seen the same problem with other vehicles, and more cars are fitted with aerial amps these days. It could be worth looking to see if an adaptor cable is available for the newer Fords. Sorry about the confusion. :D Quote
