frogeye Posted June 15, 2009 Report Posted June 15, 2009 Hi,Have recently bought a 2.8 V6 and have been merrily filling with 95 RON (?) grade unleaded petrol. I've just got hold of an owners handbook which suggests I should be using 98 RON unleaded (high octane petrol).Does anyone have a view on this? Thanks Frogeye Quote
KFA Posted June 15, 2009 Report Posted June 15, 2009 I have the same model with the VW six cylinder engine. It came without a handbook but runs well on standard unleaded. KFA Quote

MrT Posted June 16, 2009 Report Posted June 16, 2009 I am led to believe that the engine compensates when the lower octane fuel is used and can run perfectly well on both even though you are supposed to use the higher octane. It feels smoother and more powerful on the higher octane but that could be just imagined rather than real. If there is about 2-3p difference per litre I buy the higher octane but sometimes I have seen "ultimate" and other brands substantially more expensive and then I just buy the cheap. Quote
frogeye Posted June 16, 2009 Author Report Posted June 16, 2009 Hi,Thanks for the info. I'll see how the price compares when I next fill up and will probably give it a go. Quote
cyborg Posted June 17, 2009 Report Posted June 17, 2009 I use the cheapest i can find as the ecu adjusts the engine retard automaticly. On my mondeo you have to adjust a wire to use very low ron . Thought about sticking some acetone (nail varnish remover) in once to increase octane but not sure if fuel tank would melt . food for thought On the list of jobs I never got around to was to set up a car to run on petrol and water apprently its very easy and not an urban legend. Please be serious! It's a SCAM not an urban legend! Water injection is not the same thing at all and it is of NO benefit to N/A petrol engines whatsoever. Quote

MrT Posted June 18, 2009 Report Posted June 18, 2009 Those electrical diagrams are rubbish, nothing more than an attempt at a adjustable pulse generator and in the league of snake oil. Quote
