Just got our first Galaxy, just exactly a week ago. 1999 T reg 2.3 (I think it's a GLX)

Loved it on the test drive at the dealer's. Got on the motorway (no distance from the dealer) and the vehicle started slipping out of fifth gear. Drove it straight back to the dealer who phoned a gearbox place he deals with and they said the gearbox oil level might be too low, so the dealer topped it up, we drove off, same problem.

To cut a long story short, yesterday we were back at the dealers and they took it to their gearbox place where they topped it up with oil again, saying the dealer's mechanic hadn't filled it up enough. Drove home and it was perfect - until today.

Today it is leaking oil like a sieve, the oil is a reddish colour and it is making a trail as I drive. The gear changes are OK at the moment but I haven't been on the motorway and it was speeds of 60 + that triggered off the slipping fifth gear before.

Have just left a message on the dealer's answerphone ....

Sigh!!

mmmm think id be taking it back for a refund, dont be fooled on the excuses the dealer will try and tempt you with, iirc under the sale of goods act you have 28 days to have any defects rectifiyed or your money back, give the trade and standards peeps a call there very helpful.

from reading/searching on the forum on gearboxes THERE BLOODY EXPENSIVE TO REPAIR,i do not know what sort of warrenty they have given you(iirc 3 mths is minimum)now the cynic in me tells me the dealer will keep on topping the oil up until the warrenty runs out then say to you tough your on your own.
