vivo Posted June 11, 2009 Report Posted June 11, 2009 Climate control dualMk2 1.9 Tdi galaxy ghiaOk had the system re-gassed during March working fine COLD Air blowing when engaged the air con? Last week it started blowing hot instead of cold so I took it back to have it checked no leaks so the guy topped it up with 3 grams as he said it was empty when he first did it in March. It worked again COLD but now it has started blowing hot again, my question is where is the sensor control? As there are no leaks? Or can someone come up with a solution or advice? Quote
big_kev Posted June 11, 2009 Report Posted June 11, 2009 It does sound like a leak....they don't always show when testing. If it was topped up in March and then required topping up again last week this does sound like a leak. Do you have manual aircon or automatic ? Quote

No you read it wrong it was refilled in march as it was empty [bought it in February] and topped up last week it is still full the clutch and everything else is working I suspect the sensor I just dont know where it is? it is auto air con and manual air con. Quote
andy m Posted June 11, 2009 Report Posted June 11, 2009 clutch and everything else is working I suspect the sensor I just dont know where it is? if the clutch is engaging then the sensor is working...... if the clutch is working and going around it SHOULD work...but it could have less gas than required to hold the refigeration cycle or the compressor is borked..... I 'd regass it as a start if that doent work new compessor time.... I recone if you gave it a bit of time the low pressure sensor would kick in (and the panel would flash on startup) as you proberbly have a gas leak. Quote

MrT Posted June 12, 2009 Report Posted June 12, 2009 (edited) You say you have dual climate control which means there are vents in the roof in the rear? If you really have dual climate control you have two evaporators then 700g is way too low. The correct amount is much more than the standard system and off the top of my head is either 1050g or 1250g. Both the small (~700g) and large volumes (~1050)are printed on the plate on the top of the front panel inside the bonnet. Also if the compressor seizes due to lack of refrigerant and oil the shaft can break internally and the clutch engages and disengages and appears to be working, but you can usually tell this by the load on the engine when it engages. If the system was totally empty when you bought it you need to think where the refrigerant went, it can only have leaked out. Edited June 12, 2009 by MrT Quote
MrT Posted June 12, 2009 Report Posted June 12, 2009 I have just checked and the plate is marked "2: 1050g +50g" for the dual air con. Remember Dual Air Con is roof vents in the rear not just temperature controls for the rear. Quote

Thanks the dual control is on the front panel rear/front the air at the rear comes out N/S on the floor no vents on the roof so why do they state that its dual in the hand book can they [Ford] get anything correct:wacko: I will check everything and get back to you and thanks again. andy m Posted June 12, 2009 Report Posted June 12, 2009 the sensor I mean is the temp is it on the control panel at the front panel? the two little slots by the temp and fan control? yes sorry the temp sensor for the cockpit is in the cc module and can be seen though those little vents..... although if you just set the cc to low it by passes it and puts out full cold.! andy M Quote
mikej Posted June 12, 2009 Report Posted June 12, 2009 BEWARE NO ROOF VENTS NO DUAL AIRCON, 700+- 25g is correct fill. As already mentioned it sounds like the compressor is u/s, i have had the same thing a few times now the clutch will engage and all seems normal but no cool air, i removed my last compressor in may, everything looked normal the pully was turning although it felt rough but it was stuffed inside, a new compressor sorted it .mike..
