Hi, I'm hoping that someone on this forum can help me.... I have a Galaxy 2.3 Ghia 2003. On Monday driving home it went to stall twice in third gear. I stopped at the shops, started the car and 100 yrds down the road it just cut out. I couldn't restart the car and the AA were called.

The AA said that the earth lead to the battery was corroded and temporarily fixed it. He also said that the immobiliser would need resetting but that I could get around this by removing the second fuse on the left (Orange number 5) for a minute, replacing and then the car would start.

The car started on Tuesday twice. Tried to start car yesterday, no joy. Does not even attempt to start. AA called again. Tested battery and got engine to turn over using cables in engine compartment. Could not get car to start using the key. Even when taking out the fuse, leaving it for one minute and then replacing the car would not start.

AA towed car to independant garage. Garage disconnected battery, reconnected battery and car started but then cut out. They have disconnected battery, left it overnight, reconnected and still the car will not start. They are saying that this could be the ECU (this sounds expensive!!) although they do not have the diagnostic tools to confirm this.

Having looked at a number of posts on this board do you think that this is related to relay 30? Or should I pay to get the car towed to a Ford dealer?

Hello Donna

I'd go for the relay 1st - if you can solder, you can fix the existing one (it's generally dry joints) or a new one is pretty cheap.

Whils it does look like a mare to get too, it's not too bad and pretty easy if you take your time.

Had exactly the same symptoms on 2 Galaxys - both times it was the relay.

Hi Donna,

I'm with Steven on this one. Had the same thing with my 2.3 auto this time last year. After being mucked about by the local garage for week after week, towed the car home, replaced relay 30 and had the car back on the road the same morning. Is your immobiliser light in the drivers door flashing rapidly?

You may have a bit of luck by shoving your hand up behind the fuse board and give the relay section a bit of a rattle and squeeze.. this seemed to sort my problem out, but I went ahead and changed both relays (can't remember the other one) as I had already bought replacements (about

Thank you both, it was the relay, being swapped out as I speak and will be back on the road today! YAY! Thank you so much. I will be investigating my parking sensor issue and rear wiper water problem next week. Thanks once again.

Im having the same problem with my 2.8 galaxy

We went to tesco yesterday parked up fine not a problem, went shopping and when we got in the car to go it would not start. The little read light on the door is flashing like mad. The cars turns over but the engine cuts out. We had to get taxi home and get my partners car to tow it home.

where are the relays located as i have not tried this yet?

thanks

Yours is definitely an immobiliser issue, not a relay 30 issue:

RELAY 30 ONLY AFFECTS THE 2.3 I4 ENGINED FORD GALAXIES!!!!

For gods sake someone do a sticky in the FAQ's to this effect.

Have you checked the key for the PATS chip falling out, did you drop the keys in Tescos? Have you got the master key or a coded spare to try out?

HI sepulchrave

I Called the rac out after lots of head scratching....

yes it is immobiliser issue...

my partner pulled the key apart getting the buggy out the boot.

rac guy said that there was the micro chip missing from the key fob so we went back to where we parked the car and hey presto there it was under a car. Got home and tried it and it was that, that was the prob.

I dont have a spare key but think im gonna invest one now!

Thanks for the quick response sepulchrave
