My 2.0 1996 Galaxy has developed an engine fault. When the engine is up to running temp, normally abouty 10 mins, the engine has developed this annoying fault where it cuts in and out erractically, whilst driving. I have checked plugs, Inlet control valve, Coils, cleaned injectors (which were minging) checked air filter, and generally checked any electrical connections to the engine that i can see.

I have also done an engine diagnostic check which showed no faults.

I am at the head scratching stage now???????????

I'm not mad, talking to myself etc....just wondering if anyone has any ideas if this could be related to a dodgy temperature sensor. I have has major problems a couple of years ago with MAF, Eng coolant temp, lambda sensors...

run alive test and see if you are getting a read out on the rpm, if not the problem will be the crank sensor, ive had a few of these latley on various cars, engine runs fine until its up to running temp then it all goes tits up........ warm the car up first

Hi Gee,

I had a similar problem with my 1996 2.0l gal last summer. After forking out on new plugs, leads and a pair of coil packs, thoroughly cleaning the idle control valve - all to no great improvement, I tried unplugging my MAF sensor (as suggested somewhere on this brilliant site) and the problem was sorted.

I can't remember if I may have disconnected my battery (and shorted the leads) to reset the default values or not, but I shoved the MAF lead in a plastic bag (to keep the contacts clean) and drove around like this for a couple of weeks with no problem. I then bought a new MAF, swapped them over, connected it up and it continues to run very well.

The MAF is definitely worth checking. Good luck

Regards,

Chris
