isnt there a manual over ride? check the user handbook? my JEEP has one to allow you to open the rear hatch from the inside if you need to! the mk1 and 2 could be opened from inside if you knew how to flip the lock once the inner trim cover was removed or pulled out far enough to allow your arm in to depths of the hatch :(

Had this problem yesterday. First you must understand the normal principal of operation. When the car is unlocked, raising the tailgate handle operates an internal micro-switch which signals the central control unit to operate a solenoid and move a lever to open the lock. In my case the solenoid is not operating powerfully enought to trip the lock. This maybe a faulty solenoid or a contol unit fault. However until yesterday, using the key would mechanically trip the lock. yesterday key-operated part of the lock broke and so the tailgate would not open. Since you need to open the tailgate to remove the screws which secure the trim, I was stuck.

By getting inside the car andforcing the trim back from immediately below the window glass, it is just posible to force the lever towards the passenger side and trip the lock. Of course the lever is hard to see but the lock barrel mechanism would normally operate the lever so push a large screwdriver in the gap and move it towards the passenger side.

When I finally get it fixed with a new lock I will cut a 2" dia. hole in the trim in order to gain access should it fail again

hi all, just joined this forum specifically to find out about jammed tailgates. only had our '07 galaxy for a few weeks and can't get in the boot. Booked in to an indy garage to have the motor replaced under warranty (and any other components involved that are covered while they're at it. Problem has ocurred a couple of times with one of the rear passenger doors too and I have 56 plate transit minibus that the side door won't lock sometimes... something Ford not telling us?

I just had the same problem on mine. Found out that the boot was not shut properly (every time I pressed the boot release button on the remote or the handle on the boot I got a "click"). Pushed firmly on the boot to make sure it was closed and hey presto, it worked. Don't know if this will work with yours though.

Did anyone come up with a solution to this problem? My 2007 MkIII 2.0TDCI Zetec has the same problem. When I pull the tailgate release there is a faint clicking but the main lock does not release, so it is stuck closed.

Nothing is jammed in the tailgate, I have tried pushing is firmly down when operating the lock, checked the fuses. The trim does not appear to be removable with the tailgate shut so I am pretty well stuck. Any ideas gratefully recieved.

Is there someone who has the answer to this problem? I also have it intermittently on my 2007 TDCi Ghia and sounds like it is a common fault. If anyone knows what needs fixing/replacing adjusting, please could you post an answer?

Thanks,

I fixed the problem on mine. When you press the boot release on the handle it operates the solenoid to release the catch. There is no further motor action, there is a large spring which actually releases the lock. On mine this had got stiff so a spray of WD40 freed things up and now it operates smoothly every time. Spray the WD40 in and manually close the lock over with your finger or a screwdriver, then release it using the button on the handle. Do this a few times to work the WD40 in and rinse out any gunge that is making it stick.

There was no magic trick to actually get the door open when it was stuck, I just repeatedly operated the lock while pushing the tailgate shut to try and take pressure off the lock, eventually it released. There was no way to remove the trim inside to operate the lock from within, so it just takes patience. Once you manage to get it open get the WD40 in there, don't shut the boot!
