I have a 2.2 TDCi on a 58 plate and am becoming increasingly frustrated with the middle seat- i don't need it and it is getting in the way. Before this I had a 2 other Galaxys and a Grand Voyager and loved the way you could walk down the middle of the car to get to the rear row.

My question is this - can I safely remove the middle second row seats and take it out of the car completely or is this something that I really shouldn't be contemplating. The only problem I think may occur is if there are bolts under the floor.

I know I'll need a special star patterned key to remove it but that shouldn't be too hard to source.

This is my 3rd Galaxy now and I must say that I preferred the 42lb removable seats as the fold flat system eats up too much of the cabin space, it isn't a flat load area like the earlier models and you cant get into the back row as easily as you could before when I had a 2+2+2 seating setup. Also taking all 5 out reduced the cars weight by 15 stones of dead weight if you didn't need them.

Love the car, and have now covered 10,000 at 34 mpg overall. I love the torque of the 2.2 (motorway acceleration from 60mph up is very impressive) but the whole seating set up is spoiling the experience for me. Is what I am proposing a good idea or could this be seen as interfering with the structure and/or modifying the car by the insurance company?

Bring back the removable seats I say.

Thanks

No idea really as not seen your seat type, but are they linked for strength?

(its a TORX set you need to remove)

If not i will swap cars!

Thanks for your help and swap offer Richard!

The seats aren't joined together and the two seat buckles are integral to the seats - what I really want to know is if unscrewing the seats will leave 4 fixing nuts / locking plates on the floor under the car or worse still rattling around under the floor trim , which would of course make the re-installation of the seat impossible (for me).

It looks a really simple operation but I suspect it may end in tears.

It is just a simple job of removing the 4 bolts.

When you decide to put it back, torque the bolts to 40Nm.

Job done ! Thanks for all your help, the most difficult thing was finding a T45 bit to undo the 4 bolts. I put the bolts back in so I can't lose them ! The seat came out with out any drama, and also enabled me to clean up the glass remnants from when the passenger window was smashed.

Apart from the lump in the middle and the small hole in the carpet the 6 seat 2+2+2 seating arrangement is much more like what I actually need.

Incidentally even though the seat is much thinner than prevois tumbling models it weighed a surprising 40lbs. - Only 2 lbs lighter than my previous seats on my 52 plate.
