Gee Posted May 19, 2009 Report Posted May 19, 2009 (edited) whilst returning from a journey today, my galaxy engine starting acting up, cutting in and out, eventually cutting out and leaving me stuck in traffic. had a look under bonnet, no smoke, leaks, dodgy leads (that i could see), but was a faint smell of burning....couldn't find a source for the smell. Tried car again 5 mins later and hey presto..started. Got home (20 miles) with the odd bit of kangarooing thrown in. Went to start car 1 hour later, took about 30 seconds of coughing and spluttering (sounded like it was firing on 3 cylinders) and then ticked over no problem. Anybody got any thoughts??? 1996 2.0I GLX petrol Edited May 19, 2009 by Gee Quote
seatkid Posted May 21, 2009 Report Posted May 21, 2009 Most likely an ignition problem. Check plugs, leads and coilpack(s). Quote
Gee Posted May 22, 2009 Author Report Posted May 22, 2009 Most likely an ignition problem. Check plugs, leads and coilpack(s). Thanks for suggestion. i have removed plugs and cleaned/refitted them, leads are relatively new and show no signs of wear, also checked coil packs..doesn't seem to be any problems with them. Have removed plug leads one at a time, with engine running, car runs as you would expect with only three leads connected. have also cleaned Idle air control valve/air filter/run a diagnostic check for engine management (no faults) and generally checked all plugs and electrical connections. Contemplating cleaning injectors next... Quote
