Guest stevej Posted April 2, 2003 Report Posted April 2, 2003 Hi all, Since I bought my 97 v6 Ghia x auto, I have had a very unusual problem with the audio. It is a 2007 rds with auto-changer. When the engine is off, radio/tape/cd work perfectly, when engine is on audio fades out. Sometimes you can get it back on by turning the heater fan on high, sometimes it will come on by turning the headlights on. Sometimes it will not work whatever I do. Any ideas. I took it to Fords (Jutsums Lane Romford) as part of a 70,000 service today, but they couldn't find the fault. They said they would have to have it in for a couple of days and go through all the wiring!!! Other than that good service ( Quote
Guest stevej Posted April 3, 2003 Report Posted April 3, 2003 Thanks Fred, is there any obvious place to take a new live, earth and neutral from, as I'm new to vehicle electrics? Also, other people on the site have mentioned using thin screwdrivers or nails in place of the correct tool to get the radio unit out, is this true or should I invest in the tool (how much is it)? Since Fords looked at it yesterday, it is certainly 50% better but it is still fading out, so it certainly seems like you say, to be dodgy wiring somewhere. Thanks for your input Steve Quote
dulux72 Posted April 4, 2003 Report Posted April 4, 2003 Hi there stevej Not sure of the exact fitting but if its 4 holes 2 each side then a wire coat hanger cut and bent into a U will do the job. Insert into all holes at the same time and push until you feel some resistance ( no further than an inch )Push both U's towards the outer door and pull the unit at the same time. And hey presto the unit will slide forward. You do not need to have the U's in place to replace the unit but do push until an audible 'click' is heard to relocate the unit. Sorry I can't be more sure about the 4 holes but I've got a '99 110 TDI sharan and its got a factory fitted sony so different fittings to the one's I've just described. :o Cheers dulux72 Quote
Guest stevej Posted April 4, 2003 Report Posted April 4, 2003 Thanks, I'll have a go over the next couple of days. Steve Quote
Guest stevej Posted April 4, 2003 Report Posted April 4, 2003 I do have the code thanks, what is the procedure for putting the code in, if I need to? is it just the numbers then select? Steve Quote
Guest saint Posted April 4, 2003 Report Posted April 4, 2003 Hi, Fred is correct in his assumption, as I have the code for mine along with owners handbook etc, and that's what it tells you to do. Pete Quote
Guest Boggler Posted April 5, 2003 Report Posted April 5, 2003 To code the radio on a 2007, press select, should then display code, press station 1 for the first number, station for the next number etc, once station four number done radio will be ready. I find a little problem with mine when I do this, make sure the removble panel is fully inserted or else it will rest when you start on station 2 button Quote
Guest stevej Posted April 6, 2003 Report Posted April 6, 2003 Haven't had time to fix the problem yet but did try the cut down coat hangers, and they work a treat!!, cheers :o Quote
