I need some help I have recently bought a galaxy with the visteon multimedia pack in it. 2 screens in the head rests, but the dvd player does not seem to work, everything else does the screens work and if i plug a PS2 in that all work perfectly. I have checked and there appears to be power getting to the unit. I have changed the fuses and checked the wiring. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and how they solved it and 2 if the DVD player is broken is there a viable alternative to replace the visteon MB-8000 and if there is where can I get one.. thanks

Sorry yes when I call up the menu on screen I have the option of DVD or AUX, I can also press the DVD button on the menu and it will bring up a blue DVD icon in the corner of the screen. But I can seem to get a DVD in. I'm a little confused by it as it appears to light up as well but beyond that there is nothing from the player at all..

Now, my memory may not be what it is, plus I've lost track with the various systems that have been fitted, but where are you trying to put the DVD? Into the head unit, or isn't the player in the storage bin at the side of the cargo area (or on the floor between the front seats)?

Are you definitely trying a Region 2 DVD? I seem to recall that it won't play multi-region or any other region than 2

panel1.bmpyeah it's the right region. But I can't get the dvd in the player it's the slot type and I can't insert the dvd. It lights up the menu on the screen show's the dvd's there just can't seem to get a dvd in the slot. it's getting power the fuses have been changed, I've tried it with the ignition on and the radio off, the ignition off and the radio on, I've tried it with both the ignition and the radio on and just to make sure with the engine running as well...lol . I have hit a brick wall at the moment. If it help's i've attached a photo I know the screen button is missing. I do have the proper remote control for it as well

Have you taken the unit out and tried to open it up? Maybe the mechanism is jammed if you cannot even get it to accept a disc?

That was my next try. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything first. I'll run a couple of bench tests first just to make sure then go for the open heart surgery last..

i had a similar problem where i could not get the dvd player to work and the screens wwould only come on if i plugged an auxilliary unit into it. i changed the control box in mine and it works perfectly now. Try changing the control box (the black box above the dvd player) this controls all the signals to the screens and the dvd player, it is not cheap but it is certainly cheaper than the dvd player from ford.

Good advice there but you can also swap over the connectors on that box. You'll find a label that says "Remove for VCR connection" and under there is a connector thats identical to the DVD one and carries the same signals.

The only difference is that instead of the on screen menu saying DVD it'll say VCR instead.

Hi folks, may I ask if this issue resolved?

Was it the control unit or the dvd player?

I have a 2004 with multimedia which has suddenly stopped working, nothing, not even illumination on the screens or dvd unit. The unit was tempremental before, for example, if you tried to start it too quick it would'nt work prior to it being reset (ignition off, key out).

Fuses OK, power to the control unit and power from control unit 12v and 5v to the dvd. No power from control unit to monitors though.

There is a place in Bath, "maple audio" on the internet which advertises a repair service for the DVD player (visteon mb-8000), but there is no price displayed.

I am hoping to resolve the problem asap but would love to kick start this thread in order to assist anyone with the same problem, and to see if anyone else has fixed their multimedia system.

Many Thanks
