Hi been using this forum for a good few years and find it a great help, but there seems to be many different opinions on very important things like Flywheels, should you have a flywheel ground if it is worn some say yes some say no..

is there an answer.

'Worn' means what?

A dual mass flywheel cannot generally be reground because that is not what is usually wrong with it, therefore you simply replace it.

A conventional flywheel can and should be refaced IF it is slightly warped, surface spalling or heavily scored/ridged. This is not an expensive operation, typically about

Cool it bugzie, I understand you may be stressed.......we don't want to lose members, but bad language and insults are not in order.

I know you think you are right, but let me recap. You posted about your clutch and the apparent wide spread belief that flywheels should be ground. I replied to you that they shouldnt, they should be machined if necessary. The story from Mr Clutch just rings of a cowboy approach. I am not aware that there is any belief (and certainly not on this forum) that grinding is desirable or even common.

However you apparently chose to ignore my reply and repost the same topic in different words. This is tantamount to spam and hence you got a rough ride from the members.

Look, you got screwed by Mr Clutch - if you did a google or posted here before you went and spent your money you probably would have avoided them. After all you could go to somewhere like Rapidfit, and you'll get Ford trained technicians fitting genuine parts at Mr Clutch prices. I have said many times to members - USE THE PHONE (or as they used to sing - let your fingers do the walking....Yellow Pages)

New clutches do not need to be bedded in, and they dont judder. But then you didnt say whether your clutch had worn to the point that metal to metal contact took place and damage to the flywheel happened.

Dont use childish acronyms - the insults are still insults and hurt contributors (hence the defensive replies) and puts them off continuing.

Ok, bugzie I'll throw you a bone because I'm a nice guy...

Your clutch is juddering because Mr Clutch have either NOT refaced the flywheel as they stated, or worse yet they haven't bothered to replace the pressure plate, or both. In which case they won't have renewed the release bearing or the flywheel bolts either.

They are franchise cowboys, I told you not to use them, because they're a franchise they are not accountable to anyone, you might as well have used a back street garage (many of whom are actually very good).

Your problems are way beyond the scope of this forum and you should seek redress through your local Trading Standards office, may I suggest you speak to them politely and respectfully. :(

so you have had a run in with mr cl*ch they charged 1 of my customers for a duel mass flywheel the didnt exsit on a citreon. this i know because i called citreon to check. low and behold it never exsited for 1996 zantia petrol and that BECAUSE duel mass flywheels never can out until 2001 but back to your problem duel mass are filled with GEL and they basicly work to smooth out the running of your engine normaly when duel mass is at fault you need to replace the starter motor/duel mass flywheel/concentric slave and clutch but basicly there is no way to diagnos duel mass apart from changing it??? hope this was of some help.
