richiepenny Posted April 29, 2009 Report Posted April 29, 2009 Hi all. Im wondering if anyone can help me with my wiper problem.when I switch them on they stick straight away, it seems like the motor isnt powerfull enough because if i lift the arms the wipers move properly, but as soon as i put the wipers back onto the glass they stick againIm a complete newbie lol so any help would be fantastic???????Thanks :P Quote
Caff Posted April 29, 2009 Report Posted April 29, 2009 Had this twice. Your wiper mechanism is seizing. The motor can just about cope if the blades have no resistance but put them on the glass and everything stops. Sometimes you get a tiny amount of movement.Search for "Wiper Linkage" on this forum. I know Mumof4 wrote on this in 2006.Spraying the linkage with WD40 or the like is a waste of time. Our linkage was very difficult to get apart as it was well and truly seized. On reassembly the second time around we used good quality waterproof wheel bearing grease and hopefully we won't have to take it all apart again. All I would recommend is sort it asap as the poor old motor must be suffering trying to move those blades! Also this is a good opportunity to change the pollen filter. Quote

I had this recently, take off the arms (put masking tape on screen and mark where they park first!), remove engine cover thing and the secondary bulkhead. Undo 3/4 bolts and it comes off, you then fiddle all the wiring stuff of it. As its still moving you should be able to get it apart and clean up the 2 spindles and grease them and refit it all. (a circlip keeps the spindles in, dont loose it when you push it off!) Quote
srafferty Posted April 29, 2009 Report Posted April 29, 2009 My 01 Mk2 wipers are working but a little "juttery" when working. I wonder if this is the first sign of a similar problem? :P Quote
Vince Posted April 29, 2009 Report Posted April 29, 2009 I had a problem with slow wipers, did all the work on the spindles only to find I had a lazy motor, so ended up with a new motor, but try servcing the spindles first. Vince. Quote

mumof4 Posted April 30, 2009 Report Posted April 30, 2009 By eck...that thread i did certainly gets some use. I'm glad its off some use. I do remember doing the linkage quite well. Not something i will ever forget. Gawd what a laff..well, i can laff now.LOL. Good luck to all who do this..and remember..dont whack the spindles with a hammer to get them out. They can break and if you break them, you could be looking at a hefty bill for a new linkage. Quote

I noticed that in the plastic panel that the spindles poke through there are 2 drain holes, these were blocked and I think it Quote
