Davebirdi Posted April 27, 2009 Report Posted April 27, 2009 HiI am a newbie, just joined the forum a few days ago and must compliment everyone in the forum for the valuable information on this site. It has already saved me a lot of money by guiding me to rectify a faulty electric window. I still have another problem. I have a 1997 Galaxy Ghia X TDi (90) and have done nearly 200,000 miles. It has been a fantastic car with hardly any problems but now a few things have started breaking down. Can't complain but I would like to keep it going through the credit crunch, if possible. The coil light keeps flashing all the time and I have no power. In town it is not too noticeable but when going on the motorway, it struggles and on uphill, the lorries overtake me. I would like to buy the cable and the software which will allow me to run the diagnostics and look at the error codes, which hopefully will tell me where the problem is. It may be the MAF but I don't want to dish out Quote

Davebirdi Posted April 27, 2009 Author Report Posted April 27, 2009 Brake switch requires adjustment or renewal Read FAQ 27 The brake lights are working fine so it can't be the switch. The Turbo does not kick in. Quote
big_kev Posted April 28, 2009 Report Posted April 28, 2009 There are 2 switches on the brake pedal....one is for the lights the other is the one likely to be faulty or require adjustment. Quote

Davebirdi Posted May 1, 2009 Author Report Posted May 1, 2009 There are two seperate switches on the brake paddle. A blue one which I think is the brake light switch and above it there is a seperate black one. I assume that is the one I need to change. Quote
big_kev Posted May 1, 2009 Report Posted May 1, 2009 Check the adjustment on them first.......they self adjust...with a bit of help. Push the brake pedal down as far as possible.....engine running helps ! Then while it is down pull down the plungers on both switches....they are on a ratchet type system and may be a bit stiff. When the pedal is released it will push the plungers back up to the correct position. Sometimes the plugers can accidently get push up to high.....big foot jammed on top of the pedal ? Try this first before replacing any. Quote
