Ga73 Posted April 25, 2009 Report Posted April 25, 2009 Hi All, Ive now had my Seat Alhambra 110 Tdi for a week and have noticed that when pulling away from the lights in first i need to rev the engine to pull her away otherwise it stalls, I cant judge how effective it is in other gears as ive exchanged it for a 320i BMW which was full of power. It also says in the fuel computer im getting on average 28-29 mpg which is very disapointing.. Can anyone give me some pointers on what to check, clean etc etc to try and get her performing like I was expecting (high 30's mpg and no hesitating.) Many thanks Gary Quote
seatkid Posted April 25, 2009 Report Posted April 25, 2009 1. Check air filter not blocked 2. Check the MAF sensor - simple test - does it drive better with it disconnected? (See FAQ 29,30) 3. Check Turbo vanes moving - not stuck (search for more info) 4. Check all the vacuum piping is connected, not split etc. (The vacuum controls the Turbo boost) Quote
srafferty Posted April 26, 2009 Report Posted April 26, 2009 I have the same issues with my 4/01 115bhp tdi. It produces a negative boost code - P1556. The answers you just got are common problems but not the answer to mine. I laso have lots of black smoke from my exhaust.Does this sound familiar? My car will have the turbo kick in but not until over 2000rpm. I have ordered a new MAF, MAP sensor and EGR valve. I'll let you know how I fair.Oddly enough you should check you brake light switch also!! Quote
Scorpiorefugee Posted April 26, 2009 Report Posted April 26, 2009 (edited) Several points. You must forget BMW520 for comparisons. If you try to start with less than 1500rpm and don't use a gentle clutch it will stall. For comparison, on a level ground in 5th with 1 or no passengers you should get 50 to 70 in about 12 seconds or better. If it dies above 3000 rpm your MAF is probably shot. You should get 45mpg on a run if you stick to the limits. If it's a 110 version it is the AFN engine and it is totally different from the 115 and considerably different from the 90. And finally, Take note of SeatKid, he knows these motors well. Good luck with it and, if it has problems, stick with it, don't let garages experiment at your expense and don't chuck money at it until you're sure it's the right thing to do. I got mine with a few problems but got them sorted with help from this site and after 4 years it is now at 230K and it got it's MOT with commendations. Edited April 26, 2009 by Scorpiorefugee Quote
