I have just bought this. See item above. My problem is I konw nothing about them (!! !!) and want to know if there are any other 4x4 owners out there? Also, I know it's a long shot but I don't suppose anyone knows this specific vehicle?

I'm buying it as the missus has just started child minding and needs an auto-boxed kid carrier. the engine is a bit bigger than I would have liked but I'm guessing the V6 is pretty bullet proof? Price seems pretty decent but anyone know about the reliability of this specific auto box and what sort of expensive problems I should be looking for ahead of collection?

Also are they prone to drive shaft issues??

If the item isn't as described I can still back out so any help ahead of the pick up would be massively appreciated. also feel free to coment if you think the price/deal stinks etc...

Cheers

Price seems OK. The VW 2.8 V6 engine that should be in has a timing chain which does not need replacing so I do not understand the reference to the cam belt change. Mine has some play in the take up of the auto box but has done 165,000 and uses no significant oil. Check the horn buttons as a plastic moulding tends to snap below the button. You can reassemble it but the horn buttons then tend to work at the gentlest touch. Check the door mirror mouldings and see if powered adjustment works. Check that the cigar lighter plug operates. If not there are two by the rear door and you can run an extension forwards under the carpet. Mine goes very well but I worry over the number pf entries on this site describing engine management problems due to sensor failure. You may find a back street garage with the diagnostic gear needed.

Finally, if the water pump fails the engine has to come out! The engine itself apparently has a good reputation.

Good luck

does it hell, you can swap it out without dropping the engine! cam belt? most likely the aux drive belt? drive shaft issues? only when you lower them so far down that they point up hill from the hubs  main problems going to be the fuel bill for the beast, but the sound of that engine is enough to make up for that ;)

Very, very nice motor ;)

Check the autobox is working smoothly....may not be cost effective to repair.

However much better than the manual to drive......especially around town.

Check all the electrics and aircon....as with all Galaxy's lots of niggling faults are common.

Check that the 4-wheel drive operates ok ( sometimes the propshafts get removed...honest ! ).

The V6 is the best of the petrol engines, is a bit heavy on the juice but this would only bother you if doing high mileages.....could always convert it to gas.

And for christ's sake retune the bloody radio to a different station.....

Check top of front suspension struts which collect rainwater and completely rust out. Very hard to get to these - try poking in a wick and see if it comes out wet. Front jacking points also worth scrutiny. Wiper mechanism very common failing - check yours are still free moving. Good price - nice looking car.
