Guest daddycool Posted March 16, 2004 Report Posted March 16, 2004 Today my misses pulled away from a junction and heard an almighty bang.On inspection it appears that the engine roll restricter has broken. The bolt securing the rubber bush to the square bit has sheared off. Does the whole part have to be changed or do i have to just replace the rubber bush and bolt?It is not being driven anymore untill it is fixed, however would it be ok to drive it like this?Had a look on GSF and Europarts but cant find a price. Any ideas on how much this is going cost. I'm assuming its going to cost a bomb. ;) RegardsMark Quote
Guest nimrod Posted March 16, 2004 Report Posted March 16, 2004 Can you remove the remains of the bolt? if so just replace it or drill it out re-tap the hole and stick in a stronger one! I did when mine went and its still there 18 months later ;) Quote
Guest daddycool Posted March 16, 2004 Report Posted March 16, 2004 How difficult is it to re tap the hole?I'm not very experienced in this sort of thing.Had enough problems getting the plastic shield off the bottom!! ;) Quote
Guest nimrod Posted March 16, 2004 Report Posted March 16, 2004 I had the use of four post lift so it was very easy ;) how much of the bolt is left sticking out? I drilled a 2.5 mm hole down the center of the broken stub and increased the sizes of the drills till I could get a decent bolt extractor to get a grip of it and remove it, once it was out I stuck a tap through the hole just to clean the threads and replaced the bolt with a high tensile bolt I had lying around :P its been ok for the last 18 months and i'm not easy on it ;) Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted March 16, 2004 Report Posted March 16, 2004 Daddycool - you need special tools to drill out and re-tap. If you're not set up to do this, and don't know someone who is, then it would be far safer to get your local garage to sort this out.Personally I would NOT drive the car until it is fixed (maybe risk driving it very gently to the garage to get the work done, but certainly don't use it on a day-to-day basis until it's sorted). Engines can move arouond a lot, and you never know what else will get stressed and/or broken by the movement. Quote
Guest nimrod Posted March 16, 2004 Report Posted March 16, 2004 Good point Ivor the main thing to watch out for are the non flexible alloy pipes off the air con compressor! if one of these goes its a big bill and a big job to replace them! ;) if you can try and secure it if you can! if you need to drive anywhere to get it fixed Quote
Guest daddycool Posted March 16, 2004 Report Posted March 16, 2004 Thankyou very much for your reply's. Car will definetley not be driven as we have three kids so anything wrong with the car and its not going anywhere. Going to try and source the part tomorrow. A friend of mine, a highly experienced mechanic, is going to change it for me. Thanks for your helpMark Quote
Guest chrisH Posted March 17, 2004 Report Posted March 17, 2004 daddycool, I had exactly the same thing over the christmas break.I went to fords who couldn't fit the part for over a week so i order the part which came in the next day. It cost about Quote
Guest Boggler Posted March 17, 2004 Report Posted March 17, 2004 The bolt on mine sheared, luckily once it wasn't under tension any longer the "stub" was easily turned out. Try taking the other end off, get it on to a bench and see if you can drive the "stub" around with a hammer and punch. Quote
hotleaduk Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 My bolt sheared one night. Had a look, luckily I was able to unscrew the end. Bought a new bolt from Ford dealer for around Quote
