jkspoff Posted April 5, 2009 Report Posted April 5, 2009 Its 4 years this week since my last set of penalty points and I was looking forward to applying for a clean copy of my license when guess what, I've just driven up a road I use nearly every week, and there was a mobile speed trap there, a Ford Galaxy with its boot up and the usual officer with a camera pointing my way, its a 50mph dual carriageway and I pulled out to overtake a slow Vectra when I noticed the speed trap, I immediatey slowed from 56mph to 50mph so hopefully he will have not got a good enough average reading, but I'm doubtful as it did appear to be on me as I overtook before I realised. Anyway it'll teach me, just annoying when you see these idiots driving around housing estates at 50mph+ in their boy racer cars, and here I am,an advanced driver in the dry on a dual carriageway tootling along in my people carrier, paying my way in a fully legal car. Oh well, only the post will tell this week, will let you know ! Quote

suzuki91 Posted April 5, 2009 Report Posted April 5, 2009 if it was a fair cop, you will get the nip very quickly, they dont hang about.....56 should be ok i would think. Quote
mk2vr6 Posted April 5, 2009 Report Posted April 5, 2009 and here I am,an advanced driver in the dry on a dual carriageway tootling along in my people carrier.... so what your saying then is that its ok for you to break the law as your special? oh! and he doesnt need to know your average speed, just the speed you were doing when he pulled the trigger  Quote
seatkid Posted April 5, 2009 Report Posted April 5, 2009 (edited) Indicated 56mph should be OK, fingers crossed. Edited April 5, 2009 by seatkid Quote
big_kev Posted April 6, 2009 Report Posted April 6, 2009 I immediatey slowed from 56mph to 50mph You got a digital speedo ? Quote
Nigel-in-oxford Posted April 6, 2009 Report Posted April 6, 2009 If your speedo is like mine 56= about 50 on the GPS so you may be ok.I got stopped for doing 32 in a 30 zone got off with a warning, but my speedo said 38! Quote
jkspoff Posted April 6, 2009 Author Report Posted April 6, 2009 Its only a guess as to the speed I was doing at the time, it was about halfway between 50 and 60, so we'll see, I'm not saying its ok to break the speed limit anywhere, but just that this method shows no mercy. Quote
big_kev Posted April 6, 2009 Report Posted April 6, 2009 I'm not saying its ok to break the speed limit anywhere, but just that this method shows no mercy. Its not there to prevent accidents....its there to generate revenue. Speed cameras increase the likelihood of an accident....causes distraction to drivers. Latest stats show accidents caused by speeding (actually where speeding may or may not have been a factor ) up from 5% to 6%. If they were going to use them to prevent accidents then they would all be in 30 zones not motorways and dual carraigeways. Quote
jkspoff Posted April 6, 2009 Author Report Posted April 6, 2009 (edited) It would seem that there is very little future for this method of capture, so we'll have to just wait and see what else they have up their sleeves, I'm pretty sure that my children when they get older will be laughing at the fact that there used to be boxes with cameras in at the side of the road, and people hanging out of the back of vans with radar guns ! smokie Posted April 8, 2009 Report Posted April 8, 2009 " in their boy racer cars, and here I am" "Ford Galaxy Ghia 130, 2004 54, 6 speed manual, tdi, silver, RS6 18" alloys, -50mm G-Max lowered springs, 68k miles" I think theres been a few Xr3i's or Gti's in your past car history! lol Quote
jkspoff Posted April 9, 2009 Author Report Posted April 9, 2009 Good point, maybe I'm a boy racer at heart, my last car was an ST220 Mondeo. Maybe its time I settled down to a more mundane pace ! Quote
srafferty Posted April 11, 2009 Report Posted April 11, 2009 A cop once told me you've got 10% +3 i.e 36 in a 30, 47 in a 40, 69 in a 60 fanar fanar Quote

mk2vr6 Posted April 11, 2009 Report Posted April 11, 2009 Nothing yet ! from your first post, if thats the date of the offence? they have untill the 20'th to process the paper work and get it out to you, as long as they can prove that it was posted within the 14 days of the offence being committed your screwed :P happy letter box watching  Quote
mk2vr6 Posted April 11, 2009 Report Posted April 11, 2009 A cop once told me you've got 10% +3 i.e 36 in a 30, 47 in a 40, 69 in a 60 fanar fanar was he sitting down at the time? 10% + 1 is the norm, you really think that they will let you get away with nearly 50 in 40 zone! the con is that they offer you the drivers awareness course at 33/34mph and no points as they know you wont argue the case, risk the points and a heftier fine! most people just pay the course fee/fine and take the no points option Quote
smokie Posted April 11, 2009 Report Posted April 11, 2009 just a thought but if you do get a ticket you could try to argue the case that you only went above the speed limit for a short period to safely execute an overtaking manuver???? Quote
ALARM MAN Posted April 11, 2009 Report Posted April 11, 2009 Nothing yet !Careful 14 Working Days  Ian Quote
sean.m Posted April 12, 2009 Report Posted April 12, 2009 Nothing yet !Careful 14 Working Days  Ianhi,i have always been a bit sketchy on the speed traps, its nice to know that you have about 10% on the limit. i always wondered if the speedo was correct as the gps says a diffrent figure, i dont know if they ever get checked. sean.m Quote
tiny Posted April 12, 2009 Report Posted April 12, 2009 just a thought but if you do get a ticket you could try to argue the case that you only went above the speed limit for a short period to safely execute an overtaking manuver???? His statement that "its a 50mph dual carriageway" Kind of blows any hope of being able to argue that he needed to speed to perform the manoeuver safely though! No need to speed if theres two lanes going in the same direction. Quote
