Hi everyone,

My first post so please be gentle with me.....LOL

I have a 99 Ford Galaxy 2.3i petrol automatic.

I've recently started to have starting problems with it.

Basically:

When I turn the key the battery tries to start the engine but it will not fire up.

The red light on the drivers door flashes away like mad - possibly indicating an immobiliser fault or key reading fault perhaps ??

When the key is turned there is a clicking sound from under the dash - indicating at least one relay is operating.

Up until today the car has always eventually started after what seems an age of trying.

I've read on here about replacing the fuel relay #12, but the flashing red light would seem to me to rule out a fuel problem (I think !!!)

I've also read about replacing relay #30, but according to my handbook I don't have a relay #30 !!!

Any help to keep my money away from my local ford dealer would be most appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

have you checked under the passenger seat to see if its wet?

When this happened to my last Galaxy I thought it was the immobiliser at fault, it turned out it was the battery not outputting quite enough juice, the immobiliser light flashed like mad as per yours, have you checked that yet, I know it seems obvious, but it might simply be a low powered battery.

Thanks for getting back to me.

Must admit I'm totally confused by the "wet under the seat" comment. (but it's dry !!!)

The battery is only a few weeks old and is trying to start the car like a good-un !!

Any other suggestions anyone ??

this is a design fault, the rear wash pipe(which has a join in it right above) runs beside the central locking/alarm module which is under the passenger seat, take a look in the faqs in the technical section.

check the fuses in the engine bay aswell?
