Ivor_E_Tower Posted March 13, 2004 Report Posted March 13, 2004 For those who were wondering about fitting a luggage net at reasonable cost, to a vehicle that was not originally bought with the "versastility pack" fitted, my solution is to buy a small-sized trailer cover net, plus some hook things that hikers use, from camping shops (eg Milletts). In my case the hook thingies came from an army surplus store (although they aren't ex-army as it happens) at Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted March 13, 2004 Author Report Posted March 13, 2004 First picture also shows the wider clip-on interior mirror, if you look closely you can also see the "kiddie viewer" mirror below it. Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted March 13, 2004 Author Report Posted March 13, 2004 No prizes for guessing what's under the blanket. Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted March 13, 2004 Author Report Posted March 13, 2004 Note step-on tool box strapped to the folded seat to stop it moving - and even when standing on it, I can't get a proper "sweep" with the sponge to wash the roof! Nimrod - do you think I needed to join the scouts with lateral-thinking improvisation skills like this??? I still can't tie a proper knot, though. Guest nimrod Posted March 13, 2004 Report Posted March 13, 2004 In this modern day and age with the invention of cable ties and duck tape who ties knots any more? go for it I bet you would look great in a pair of shorts and a woggle  my eldest daughter's brownie group is looking for leaders/helpers and they jokingly asked if I was interested! they soon changed their minds when I asked do I have to provide my own cattle prod! :o Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted March 13, 2004 Author Report Posted March 13, 2004 Both my daughters went to Brownies, the younger one stopped just before Christmas. Monday evenings just don't seem the same any more, no mad rush home from work to take one or both of them there for 6:00pm. More than a few years back, I took a day off work when it was my birthday, and when the little one was at playgroup in the same building as where "her" brownie pack meets. I took her along in the morning and promptly got asked if I would mind digging the ground ouside to fill the bucket with earth for the Christmas Tree! Ah, fond memories indeed....... Quote
Guest chunkyandlouie Posted March 20, 2004 Report Posted March 20, 2004 Ivor, It seems that Halfords don't do these nets anymore - at least my local Superstore doesn't. Apparently they were in "the Clearance" which may explain why they were cheaper at the till. I've just bought a set with 6 hooks attached for Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted March 20, 2004 Author Report Posted March 20, 2004 Strange - there were 2 types of nets on sale in my local Halfords and they weren't in the clearance section, just the normal travel accessories bit near the roof racks, roof bars, dog guards etc. Coming next will be my home-made luggage cover, using Halford's grey travel rug, closest colour I could get to my Gal's grey interior, plus a few lengths of wood I had lying around, some bolts/washers/nuts that I also had, some self-adhesive velcro (also from my collection of miscellaneous potentially useful bits) and an expanding metal net-curtain rail. Total cost under Quote
Guest rusty Posted April 20, 2004 Report Posted April 20, 2004 Hi there  Very resorceful. Peugeot do a cargo net for their estates which looks the same and has hooks on the corners. Costs around Quote
djacks42 Posted April 21, 2004 Report Posted April 21, 2004 I was in Halfrauds recently, and found some tarpaulins (small:2mx3m) on sale for only a few quid. Also, in the pet-travel section, they have a heavy duty 15ft galvanised aircraft cable with spring-close hooks at either end for Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted April 21, 2004 Author Report Posted April 21, 2004 err, the cargo net is to stop stuff falling out when you open the tailgate, not to stop things flying forward in an accident (it is, after all, placed just inside the tailgate). Mine works most effectively - not had to chase any apples or drinks bottles down my sloping driveway for a few months now!!! Quote
djacks42 Posted April 22, 2004 Report Posted April 22, 2004 Ah ok, fair point. I have developed a paranoia about this kind of thing now. It is truly amazing how much energy and damage potential loose objects can have even at 30mph. (Just don't get me started on the morons who let their dogs sit on the parcel shelf - i.e how to get decapitated by a poodle!!) Quote

I'd have thought it's more likely that the poodle would burst on hitting your head, leaving you with a rather unusual Davy Crockett hat and a big dry cleaning bill, rather than decapitiate you. Still, neither result is really what you want. Quote
Guest vitrocmax Posted April 22, 2004 Report Posted April 22, 2004 Since this thread started off on load safety, I'll chuck in a comment that also includes Halfords. Â I had a PT Cruiser for a while and found a grey non-slip mat in Halfords that was a perfect colour match, and it looks a similar colour to your Galaxy photos. It cost about Quote
djacks42 Posted April 22, 2004 Report Posted April 22, 2004 Ask your local dealer for a look on their Microcat system to find part number YC15-V550A74-EA. It is a swinging (left-right) tie down hook used on Transit in Norway and Sweden only. The bolt comes with it but you could use whatever fits. Quote
Guest Andyjflet Posted April 23, 2004 Report Posted April 23, 2004 Talking of being decapitated by a poodle, this is true, I worked with a guy once who was a rep and after a trade show loaded his estate car up and put his lap top on the top. Yep you guessed it, he was killed when he broke to avoid and accident and the lap top hit him in the upper nech, head area....THIS IS TRUE :o Quote
Richmond Posted April 23, 2004 Report Posted April 23, 2004 Poor bugger. If only he'd been a dog lover. Quote
