I have a 5000 series head unit in a 51 galaxy and it has developed a problem. As soon as I try to turn up the volume the display shows RICP and the volume does not change. It does the same thing if I push the fade/bal button. The unit is the one with the volume knob and not a rocker type. I suspect it may have failed and needs to be replaced, but just wondered if anyone had come across this problem and if there is a fix. The manual says that I should be able to hold in the man button and then scroll through to RICP ON RICP OFF but that option is not available to me. I do not have any kind of rear audio either and it appears that RICP has something to do with that.

Thanks in advance

Steve

Try taking the unit out, disconnecting all leads, wait a few minutes then re-connect (assuming that you have the code).

My parents are on holiday and I've been using their car. The Gal (with 5000-series radio-cassette and CD changer) was left in my garage for 8 days and when I went to use it, the radio was totally dead - no display, nothing. I just removed it from the dash and did the above, and hey-presto! It asked for the code when re-powered up, I entered it in and the unit has worked fine ever since. The hardest part was finding the radio extraction tools; I knew I had a pair somewhere in the house..........
