How come I never picked up this Option stuff - has insider got some privilidged information? :P Or is insiders first name Jules? :D

I would think yes and no in that order.

Actually, no and no.

Options is certainly not privileged information - http://www.ford.co.uk/Buyingandprotectingy...dit/FordOptions

(The Privilege system is where Ford employees and family members are able to purchase new cars at an enhanced discount)

It was just a pun....obviously too subtle :P

If Options is a discount scheme for Ford employees and family then.....

Why did Jules claim he paid

Really cannot understand why some of you are so aggressive, the fact that I aquired for privilidge is not something I am going to shout about in the street, If i paid less for my car than the person next to me that would piss him / her off and this scheme for obvious reasons is not in the general public domain. The fact still remains that Fords would sell my car at anywhere between what I paid to the full list to Joe Public. The prinicpal of privilidge is a benefit to staff and family to allow them to enjoy new cars on a regular basis and offset depreciation!

The option scheme is not a tie in at all, at nay given time you can pay off any remaining money owing, but you have the option of a guaranteed hand buy back figure and time you choose.

The dealer led me to believe that I would lose minimal money over the discount and put into their diary to call me back this March as they were fully aware that i like to change the cars, and this privilidge scheme would enable me to change every year at minimal costs. This obviously was a blatent lie, hence why i mentioned the dealer in question. When I bought the car another dealer SMC had the same model with 5k on the clock for 28k on their forecourt, which colaberated my dealers story.

I however do appreciate at the moment that car prices have massively fallen, but cannot see how the car manufacturers in this cliamte can expect people to pay top dollar for a car and then pay bottom dollar to change. There has to be some incentive to the buyer, not just taking it from our taxes via the government.

Secondly it is clearly apparent that what ever extras you buy on a ford, you will never recover any of them back. At the time i bought this one I could of had an off the shelf Ghia without any trimming for just under 17k with my discount, im sure if i'd bought that one I would have still been offered 12k as a px today.

Anyway, doesnt really matter Ive just bought a maserati!, which I understand will loose money but at least its fun to drive.

An excellent point and well worth considering on any car - the extras will depreciate much quicker.

It's always better to buy the standard model and only add extras that you really need, i.e. that you personally will get value from having.

Perhaps the first and last line of your reply will give you a clue ? Seriously Jules, you have more money than sense. Blowing huge wads on silly cars is not something I would recommend anyone doing right now unless you have absolutely no debts and own your property outright with plenty of cash in the bank.

One of the catalysts with this bloody mess we are in right now is the "Keep Up With Jones" mentality whereby everyone had to have the best most expensive house on the street, new cars, flash clothes and toys all bought on the never never and 'releasing equity' from their homes - property only goes up remember!

Still, at least we have you to thank for keeping the second hand market flush with nearly new motors!

Jules, some of them have nothing better to do.

Don't worry about it...........they will victimise someone else soon.

An interesting post and good to hear from someone who actually buys cars new, allowing the depreciation to absorb before we buy them second hand, hats off to these people. The mass depreciation is common on most higher ends cars, especially at the moment, car dealers are reporting a drop of 25% from sales this time last year, leaving them with very little option but to offer peanuts for our pride an joy, I believe that there will be far more older cars on the road in the future as there used to be in the early 90's and 80's, as people hang on to theirs for longer to avoid the depreciation, I for one normally change every 3 years, but won't be able to consider it for at least 5 years now. Anyway enjoy your Maserati julesbyghia, I wish I could afford one, maybe one day.

In hindsight perhaps you should have gone for the S-MAX, used values seem to be holding up better than the Galaxy. From Parkers web-site:

Richard.

Which dealer is this with?

Jules

Jules

Paynes of Hinkley, Leicestershire, also gave me a fantastic deal on the new car

I went to several dealers and this was the PX price offered by them all but Paynes gave the best price on the new car but it was a stock car so had to take it as is
