Hi,

I tested my CC last month and it was working fine but when I came to use it today nothing happens I press the set button and take my foot off the pedal and I slow down..

I have done a search WOW this is a common problem. I'm not good at fixing things but willing to try if I'm pointed in the right direction (this is were you helpful people come into it)

From running a search I have found out I need to check the fuse, and the wire behind the left front head light so my questions are:

Whats the fuse number?

Is it really just a case of opening the bonnet and taking out 1 screw and checking the wire? I find it hard to believe that the headlight is held on by 1 screw?

If these are both fine what do I check next and how do I do it?

Thanks and sorry for yet another cruise control thread.

Maybe we could do a sticky or something that shows a step by step process / check list and help tidy up the forum from people like me asking the same questions over and over again.

Thanks

hi ACD

 if your refering to my quote about there being only 1 screw that holds the headlamp in, it was the indicator lense that I was refering to, it was 1 screw at the top of the lense which really only holds it in place but the lense itself kinda slots in along side the headlamp  sorry i aint much help but good luck anyway

Are you talking about the car in your signature? If so its a Mk2 and a diesel at that - the headlight arrangement is very different to the Mk1 but more importantly the cruise control on the diesel is pure digital. You won't have a pump or any vacuum system to worry about, and there isn't anything mechanical in the engine bay to look at - its all done by the ECU and fuelling.

The key things to check will be the clutch and brake pedal switches are working as expected and then look at the wiring from the control switch. Finally replace the control switch - it shouldn't be any more complicated then that
