SGB Posted March 10, 2009 Report Posted March 10, 2009 I had the rear wash pipe separation in the passenger footwell which I fixed with the advice found on this site using a jubilee clip. Spotted the soaking wet carpet in November 08 but only fixed it last week after it has dried. Problem now is my parking sensors do not work! (Front or rear) They stopped during the spring/summer of 08. Found the control unit under the seat and I can see a slight trace of water having been near the control unit but its dry now and looks like new. Is there anyway to test if this unit is the problem before I fork out for a new one? All the fuses are ok and as the unit stopped working it sounded like a throttled duck for a few weeks, flashed a lot and died. The 'P' switch on the dash no longer does anything. Dont fancy forking out a fortune unnecessarily but they are useful when the wifes trying to damage the car...Ooops I mean park. Quote

Hi SGBi had exactly the same problem with a kids drink on the module. unfortunately you will have to replace the module but please note get it from VW as it is Quote
gregers Posted March 10, 2009 Report Posted March 10, 2009 iirc someone posted about mending theres by taking it apart and checking/cleaning the insides, but then again my memorys going. Quote

SGB Posted March 10, 2009 Author Report Posted March 10, 2009 iirc someone posted about mending theres by taking it apart and checking/cleaning the insides, but then again my memorys going. Thanks. I hoped that it drying out may spark it back to life. There is a faint water stain (whie deposit) to the module case so if I can get inside it, cleaning visible connectors might have some effect. I will search the site again but still seek support that the failure I described is typical of module failure. I will certainly try the DIY approach before I buy a new one. Quote
Hookhills Posted March 28, 2009 Report Posted March 28, 2009 I tried drying and cleaning my unit (very carefully) but it never came back to life. The tip re. VW parts was terrific. My new unit cost Quote
smokie Posted March 29, 2009 Report Posted March 29, 2009 as far as i am aware the module under the seat controls both front end rear parking sensors, there is a buzzer next to the module under the seat this one sounds when the front sensors are detecting something and the car is moving forward and the rear buzzer sounds when the rear sensors are detecting something and the car is in reverse.i have had the module apart before and as far as i am aware there are no screws to remove you just need a small flat bladed screwdriver and carefully prise the front of the box off. Theres not a great deal inside but it won't do any harm to give it a good dry out and blow out.You can also check the sensors out, put the ignition on but dont start the engine and put the car into reverse so that the sensors should be activated go round each sensor in turn and listen for a very faint ticking noise from each sensor. if none of the sensors tick, front or rear, i would be guessing that the module is a fault if all of the sensors except for one tick then its probably that sensor at fault. if this is the case take one of the good (ticking) sensors and swop it with the faulty one and see if it still ticks, this will determine if it is the sensor or the wiring to the sensor. You can always take it to and auto elec and get them to plug it in and they should be able to tell you exactly whats at fault. thefatbloke Posted March 30, 2009 Report Posted March 30, 2009 Thanks for the excellent info. I'm having problems with the parking sensors. Done the 'ticking' test and found a faulty sensor! Quote
kerilomax Posted April 3, 2009 Report Posted April 3, 2009 Hi can anyone help please?I have a 2002 Galaxy Ghia and the reverse sensors don't work at all. I'm told I need a new sensor unit. Does this sound right? And what is the cheapest way to do this please? Thanks Quote
srafferty Posted April 14, 2009 Report Posted April 14, 2009 All 8 of my sensors are ticking away nicely. When the system is activated I get the 5 second tone and the flashing LED in the switch indicating a fault. I suppose that means a new unit? Quote
twindecks Posted April 23, 2009 Report Posted April 23, 2009 DID YOU GET A NEW UNIT AS MINE IS DOING THE SAME Quote
srafferty Posted April 23, 2009 Report Posted April 23, 2009 Not yet. I plan to instal mine in a friends Galaxy to check wheather or not it produces the same error first. Quote
carrotts Posted June 24, 2013 Report Posted June 24, 2013 I have read that there are two types of sensors in the galaxy, one has a deep red glass (or plastic) front the other has a mesh front. The red glass front type, apparently ,does not omit a ticking sound....can anyone confirm this please? Quote
