installer69 Posted March 6, 2009 Report Posted March 6, 2009 I joined another thread on this but thought mine might be different so here goes. Judder from most speeds but only when accelerating. Almost feels like a buckled wheel but if I accelerate to 50 mph and just ride the throttle to maintain speed or coast all is fine. As soon as I give it throttle the judder/vibration/thrumming/oscillation through whole car - how best to describe it? is felt. I suppose it could be described as a mild pull from left to right etc. The car has had the drivers side 1/2 shaft and drive shaft replaced (genuine ford items) which I think felt better but my wife used to be the main driver and she wouldn't notice if one of the wheels dropped off and overtook her! Also my front brakes squeak like hell - all the time, not just when braking. They are ate ones, not the cheapest. Then there's the pad warning light, aux heater not working, air con not working, radio distorting like buggery, squeaky dash... I will rename it the Galaxy Citron forthwith. Quote
gregers Posted March 6, 2009 Report Posted March 6, 2009 whats the tyre wear like?just wondered if the tracking could be out????shot in the dark really.pad warning light could be a brake in the wires on the pads/or pads fitted without wear indicators if this i think you just bridge the connection to turn the light out.aux heater DO A SEARCH ON IT im pretty sure this problem has been posted before  could be glow plug.air con do you have climate control if so does the panel falsh if so could be in need of a refill?radio the aeriel is in the rear passenger side window could be a broken/loose wire or just plane knackered.squeaky dash pack it out with folded paper/card . installer69 Posted March 7, 2009 Author Report Posted March 7, 2009 Thanks for those bits of info. You could just imagine a service advisor at a Ford dealership saying 'that'll be .3 of an hour labour to pack out your dash with cardboard sir' I love my galaxy... The tyre part is an interesting angle. They are not completely gone but they were budgets and I believe I am correct in thinking that galaxy tyres are reinforced a bit like a van tyre - I'm sure these are not. Tracking? is that where the wife bumps it up curbs 'cos she doesn't DO reverse parking? Air con is manual - not climate. Fully gassed and posted in a separate post. Another member gave me a line of attack which I'll go and try once I've delivered the kids to their various activities. Thanks for your help Quote
roddlers Posted March 7, 2009 Report Posted March 7, 2009 sounds like the dual mass flywheel is failing, i had the same problem with mine wrecking the driveshafts untill i replaced the flywheel at a cost of Quote
f0ster Posted March 7, 2009 Report Posted March 7, 2009 hello don`t know about this model but on other vehicles that use the vw engine, you can get a fixed flywheel replacement for the dual mass one that is on, I have carried out this operation on a bora diesel, dual mass flywheel was knackered, got a complete normal flywheel/clutch replacement for a fraction of the cost, there was no noticeable difference in the way the vehicle drove either, the dual mass flywheel is there mostly to get rid of transmission chatterthat is caused by the firing pulses of the diesel engine, the kit was LUK Quote
installer69 Posted March 7, 2009 Author Report Posted March 7, 2009 I used to work for euro car parts and I think you're correct. I'll have to see if I can get some ex employee discount. If not I suppose I'll have to get one of my old customers to order it for me (and fit it...) Can I ask though, would the symptoms of DMF failure be speed or revs dependent? Mine is defo speed relative. Quote
Daddy Dan Posted July 20, 2009 Report Posted July 20, 2009 Hi ya I've got the below problem....does it sound similar to yours?? I've got a 1.9TDi X Reg Alhambra. I've got a problem with engine judder when the engine is warming up from cold. From cold the engine is fine and I don Quote
Willie Krashitt Posted July 21, 2009 Report Posted July 21, 2009 You mention a squeaky dash. Ask your dealer (or if you have a TIS disc) for a copy of TSB (technical service bulletin) No.1/2004 ? It goes into detail about various dashboard squeaks and rattles and how to fix them , and doesn't mention cardboard once. George. Quote
